I've been thinking about this since my little trip to Minneapolis a few weeks ago.. I got to play with a few Liebherr, Miele and Sub-Zero fridges at Warners' Stellian..
Does anyone ever do mods to their fridges?
I want to replace my glass shelves with either wire racks or metal shelves... The glass is held by two metal arms... I am just scared I'm going to snap one of the shelves one day... They just flex so much.
I also want to replace the plastic drawers with metal pans. One of the drawers is cracked anyways, so it does no good having it in the fridge. My fridge is a Frigidaire FRS26KF6EWG from 09.
If I were to redo the drawers, or find a better ... use for that space, I wouldn't mind finding a way to redo the water system and put an RO system (smaller ones that I've seen) in the fridge so the storage tank was always chilled and would have RO water for Ice and the water dispenser.. I don't think it would take much, just have to have a hole added for the drain line, the rest could be spliced in the cabinet.
What brings the RO thing around is that I have an RO chiller/dispenser at work ($25/month for rent and filter maintenance), and am really missing RO water at home... I just don't want to have a free standing dispenser when the fridge could be used for it.
Oh, I wouldn't mind redoing the lighting if I were to be redoing the shelves etc. (Also would like to fashion something to replace the plastic door bins, one is missing and another one is cracked.)
What would be ideal is if the items could be replaced with items that can be easily taken out and thrown into the dishwasher. I would love to find a way to have sectioned shelves, smaller drawer sections and non-flimsy door bins that could handle the heated dry option in the dishwasher.
Anyways, the reason for this post was the other thread that I saw about the Frigidaire with the rust.. I saw the wire racks on that unit and figured I may as well ask if anyone ever mods their fridges. I know washers and dishwasher get modded but wasn't sure about the chill boxes!
(The pics are from before I got the fridge. Rethinking the things that are missing and broken, I'm wondering how much abuse this fridge had before I bought it lol.)[this post was last edited: 12/8/2014-03:40]
