Could anyone here identify what is used as a replacement for the felt seal on 1-18 dryers?  I seem to remember some mention of it here before and something about a Maytag seal as a suitable replacement?  I have searched our archives with no help to be found.

Thanks,

Joe

Thank you sfh074 for the link but this particular machine is the GM Frigidaire 1-18 and the seal that is for sale there fits the 1980 and above after White Consolidated bought out GM.

GM Frigidaire 1-18 Dryer Seals

Joe,

This is the seal that I use as a replacement on every 1-18 dryer I get in. They pop up on eBay all the time. Remember to use high temperature glue and keep the white Teflon side of the seal outward so that the drum rides on it. Use plenty of syl-glide and you'll have a quiet running dryer...better than new.

I had ages of trouble and squeaks and mis-aligned assemblies on my 1-18 dryer, every time I did any repairs. Then I taped the door closed, put a blanket on the floor in front of the dryer, and laid it flat on its front for dis-assembly and repairs. In that position, flat on its face, everything went together wonderfully. I completely re-assembled everything while it laid on the floor. Also, any time you're working on a 1-18 dryer, clean up dirt and goop on those 4 rollers, get one drop of turbine oil on each shaft, you'll make them last longer.

Thanks Guys

For the help.  I bought what I needed from Rich's link and I had read the tech talk about laying the dryer on it's front.  I've worked on them sitting up before and it's difficult.  I also learned from the tech talk about loosening the one side of the bottom roller to make getting the bulkhead back in easier.  Thanks again!
