I'm making progress on my 1-18.

I POR15'd the outer tub this weekend.

I note that the paint is not all that volatile, bad smelling. Mostly it smells like mineral spirits. I expected acetone or toluol from some things I'd read. The paint also doesn't seem to stain any worse than furniture stain, just wipe off before it drys. Yes, I've got some greyish fingernail cuticles now, but that's ok.

It's thinner than I'd expected. Not as thick by far as most oil paints I've used.

So next up is cleaning up the agitator shaft, assembling the bellows hardware, and installing it all in the box.

Just where does that oring go on the agitator shaft? It's unclear from the exploded views I have. yes, it's right there between the diaphragm support spacer and the washer, but when I fit things together it doesn't seem to fit there. But... all ye experienced experts would know, right? Oh yeah, and just what size oring is it, a 10 or 12 or 14 or what?

I got the last one in british columbia, and so I'll be using it.

I have gotten confused on the order of things after the bellows, as you can probably tell. There's a nice pseudoland on the agitator shaft in the thread relief area, which would put the oring between the bellows retainer and the washer. So I thought that was where it went, but it didn't line up correctly on assembly for that.

If it goes above the nut, how does it seal the threads?

Here are some pics showing my delimma with the agitate shaft oring installation.

The installation guide suggests placing it under the washer, above the bellows retainer.

Alternately

Now that I look at the assembly drawing --- the oring looks to big for the shaft, but just right for going around the OD of the bellows retainer.

They designed this thing to seal on the ID of the agitator retainer?

making an oring

I often use a "quad seal" configuration oring instead for applications.

Here I shaved off one of the 4 edges of the quad seal.
These photos show how I now believe the seal is installed in the 1-18.

The oring fits on the notched end of the bellows retainer. There then is a washer to butress the edge of the oring followed by the nut which holds the bellows in place.

The oring seals on the ID of the agitator retainer, the smaller bore, not the large bore.

From the appearance of the agitator retainer I gather that the previous oring failed. My temptation would be to protect the threads with thread seal or some kind, just in case.
