I bought this set new in late '77. They performed reliably for about 20 years until the washer started spinning slow. I liked it so much that I looked into having it fixed or fixing it myself and ran into dead ends on repair people and parts. I couldn't bear to part with them as I had hoped someday to fix it because it washed so well.
I had replaced a few rollers in the dryer and I kept using that for another five years or so until I wanted a matching dryer for my Maytag Neptune.
It looks like I'm going to be moving before long and I realized I'll never get around to fixing these. I'm pretty sure I have the original owner's manuals as well.
I'm just a few miles west of Richmond, VA, and I'm open to any offers!

Window in Washer Lid

I understand the need for a window in a 50's appliance - to demonstrate cleaning action to doubtful housewives. But this is clearly a much later unit, so why the window? and what are the silver bars across the face of the glass?

Why the windowed lid

Because it's a Frigidaire by GM.  That's all that has to be said.  There's too much action and fun going on in there to not be able to see it.  As far the bars on the glass?  It's called style!!!   And that is one beautiful color finish on that set!!!

Will

Didnt I read an older post from not that long ago that you bought your house not that long ago?

Sorry to hear that. And some people would have us believe things are better. NOT.

Nice set

I have to ask--do my eyes deceive me or is that a snake skin in picture 3 of the washer?? I would be scared to death if I had to open it up :)

LOL

I would have had to have the washer operational in order to clean my undergarments as I would have "lost it" when I raised the lid to be greeted by that sight :).

If I were closer to VA, I would snatch these up in a second! A windowed lid and that color are the bomb!

the agitator.....

i must be needing glasses cuz in picture #3 (with the snake skin) it looks like the agitator is solid & smooth all the way down. is it just because of the angle that you took the picture??? or are there "ridges" down the sides of the agitator, to push the clothes down, when the agitator is moving up & down??

i don't know why, but this agitator looks like it doesn't have any of the grooves or "rings" like other agitators i've seen on the frigidaire "thumpers"???

i'll be waiting for any replies.

as for that snake skin, YIKES!!!
if i would of opened the lid and seen that, i probably would of jumped back 2 feet and clutched my chest!!!
LOL.......
(i do not like snakes or reptiles! something about their skin just makes me cringe!!!)

:oD

agitator

I'm going over to the building they're in this evening, so I'll take a couple more detail pics of the agitator.
I have to call ahead and tell the snakes I'm coming......
Anyone want any other detail shots while I'm there?

more pics

Okay, tried to get a decent shot of the agitator, but limited with my phone. It was too dark in there for no flash, and the flash kinda blows out the image. I'm posting what I shot, however, along with some of the lint filter.
The snakes only allowed me five minutes with the machine today.
Oh, there are definitely ridges on the agitator!
By the way....ever hear a snake growl? Hint: It ain't pretty.

rm23j8g...

thank you for taking pictures of the agitator. now i see how the ridges are designed on the agitator. sorry about the snakes "growling" at you though. scarey!!!

i wonder if there will be any snakes hiding in the washer???

again, sorry about you having to go over there to deal with snakes, just to take pictures of the agitator. i thought you had these in an extra backroom in your house or something.

thank you again for the pictures. i greatly appreciate you taking them so that i could see the design & ridges of the agitator.

:o)

No problem...I had to go over there anyway this afternoon to show some people other stuff I'm clearing out of that building.
Snakes said I can't come back before Monday, however. Seems these Frigidaire snakes are a bit "uppity".

Christina's earlier question concerning the agitator brings to mind something Ive often thought about. Did that later style agitator create as good of a roll over as the earlier style with the rings?

Jon, this is a fun thread!

Growling snakes...hmmm, none for me, thank you! Snakes be darned, I LOVE this set!! The more I look the more I want!!! That is one fine set of Frigidaires!!! I am really tempted to get the check book out!! Atlanta to Richmond--a day trip, right :)

I would guess that this W&D set was stored in a barn. If you have snakes you have mice. While there may not be any snakes inside the machines, there probably are mice.

I once helped save a 1957 VW Bug from a barn in the Texas Hill Country. We removed it from the barn, trailered it back to Houston. When we opened the passenger door just before putting it into a storage shed literally hundreds of mice came flowing out the passenger door. And then we heard a rattlesnake rattling inside of the car.
The car was filled with all kinds of straw and barn debris. I left and never went back as I was only helping a friend out with moving it.

BTW, why is there so much debris inside the washer? You do know that kind of reduces the price of offers you'll get for the set. Is the dryer also filled with more of the same debris?

Deadline.....tonight.

I'm going to let these go for the best offer I receive before midnight EDT tonight...Sunday, June 8th.
Monday morning, they'll have a new home!
