What was the purpose of the split freezer design?

I've also seen some where there was a through the door ice and water dispenser between the upper and lower freezer doors. I think Amana had some with it.

Is it the camera or is that some kind of toast color?

Dave had that same fridge in almond when I first met him.  Almost invariably, it took three tries for the compressor to kick in, and it wasn't very quiet either.  He bought it used and I think it had been overcharged with refrigerant.

This one appears to say Frigidaire Elite on the door. So this one is probably a WCI. My parents bought one of the last 3 doors built by GM, and it had the GM logo right next to the Frigidaire name on the nameplate, so no guessing. It was still working when I found them a fantastic deal on a scratch and dent SXS Whirlpool with ice and water through the door many years later, which they bought as a replacement

Ralph, I think it's just the unshaded version of Harvest Gold. Frigidaire didn't have any color like Toast at that time, and this is way too new for it to be Honey Beige. I also think it's a WCI product, probably early-mid 80's.

Thanks Tom.  I honestly can't remember whether Dave's was a true GM or not.  Maybe one of these days when I'm looking through old snapshots its true identity will be revealed.

A flood of memories pass by looking at this fridge. My grandparents had the GM version in harvest gold (this one looks like harvest wheat). It lasted over 30 years without a repair.

Re; Millenial anti-theft, fridge

Funny, and unfortunately untrue. Two of them stole a 6 speed manual hellcat last week nearby.
I thought this fridge was a WCI. Looks exactly like a Gibson, Wards Signature, etc.
I saw one without an ice maker even. I guess the little compartment was for ice cream.
