Like this in my bedroom window as a kid It ran many many years.

I had that model for years. Bought it from friends when they added central air to their home. That was in the 1980's. It continued to work well for years. Eventually, it did fail and the the base pan rusted. For the time I used it it was a great unit. And, unusual for most window units, relatively quiet. Quite unlike the cheaply built window united today when everything is plastic and styrofoam. Metal is only used where there is nothing else strong enough.
