Frigidaire dryer on the fritz—again, not pleased!

My new Frigidaire electric dryer malfunctioned today. It is the solid-door companion to the 2140 washer that I posted (complained) about previously. I put a load of laundry in this afternoon, and the dryer shut off after about 10 minutes. All the lights were blinking. I cleared it and put it back on, and it did the same thing. Then I opened the door and realized that it wasn’t making any heat; the clothes were damp and cold. I tried it a couple more times, and it did the same thing, and still no heat. So now I have all the items in that load hanging in the house to dry.

I just got these machines last month, so to say that I am enraged would be an understatement. I knew I should have exchanged this pair when I still had the opportunity. Now the return period has run out, so I guess I am stuck with having to try to get a repair.

This does not speak well of an appliance that is 1 month old.

I need to learn never to ignore my intuition.

I have the exact same unit and have been very happy with mine (mostly because the washer is easy to tweak to my liking) and the price for the set is about half of what an LG would have cost.

What was giving you negative feelings about buying it to begin with and (aside from the dryer hassle) what do you not like about it now?

I would go the exchange route

I had trouble with a new applaince right out of the box, and I know now that it was foolish for me to have kept it, especially bacause I bought a new applaince, I payed for one, and it should work like one, no mater what it is.If it was a blender, you would take it back, and really, a dryer, and well the washer as well, get used alot at my house, i am sure that they get used alot at your house as well, i was never happy with my washer after it failed thi first time, and it never really got better. Sometimes we get lemons, and they have laws in my state about it.where I bought my washer and dryer, they would take them back, esp if you made a big enough fuss, and really are you entitled to it/Please consider.The next one will be better.

things to check.

I've been a service man for years. The best approach here is to try and determine and fix what's wrong. My instincts lean towards some kind of kinked or blocked vent hose, or a loose wire on the terminal block where the cord connects, or possibly even a bad fuse or circuit breaker in your home. Check voltage at the outlet and be sure you have both legs of the 240 volts. Check your vent hose. I'm willing to bet there's something wrong with the installation itself and not the machine. Let us know what you find out...and if all else fails...write me an email and I'm close enough to you that I could come out and have a look at it myself.

Well, I unplugged the dryer and just left it there for several hours. Then I went back, plugged it in, and started it up, and it worked fine. I don’t know what that’s about. I haven’t checked for codes because I’m afraid I’ll screw something up if I try to do it myself. I guess I will see what happens with the next load and go from there.

Washer is fine; I’ve made friends with it. I do find that I have to assemble loads carefully to get it to spin between rinses every time, and having to deal with pools of water remaining in the dispensers is a minor annoyance, but, otherwise, I think it works well.

dispenser water

Washabear, I have a 2140 and have noticed residual water in the dispenser (which I never use) as well. Just a few drops in the detergent section, but the bleach section will often have water up to the Min fill line. I do two things at the end of each wash day:

1. Remover the dispenser, dump out the water, and reinsert it, leaving it open, so as to allow any residual water to evaporate.

2. Wipe the gasket seal crack with a towel or sock, and leave the door ajar to allow it to air out. My machine is in the garage (California) which can reach 90 F or more in summer (not this summer, but last summer it did) and I have had no odor or mildew issues at all.

My only complaint about the machine is the water left over in the dispenser. I can deal with wiping the gasket seal, I just toss the clean towel or sock in with the final dryer load. However, I don't have a laundry sink, so I am forced to dump the dispenser water into a small pail.

The link below is to the users manual for the 2140. Midway on page 10 It covers both the gasket and the drawer. We have the Kenmore 44052 that was purchaed in Feb 2005. No problems at all.

Our in home laundry room has the HE3T's. After every washload, when finished, for the day, I drain and empty the tray, wipe it out. The gasket and any left over visible water is removed via a towel. In fact, I discussed this topic today with Jeff, my other 1/2 about the left over water in the dispenser. No nasty's here, and will not let it happen.

I posted a corrected link to the manual below. I agree, the water left over in these two areas is "normal" and I deal with it by wiping the gasket and draining the dispenser (by removing it and draining it into a pail) at the end of each washday.

I have never used the dispenser to dispense anything....I simply place the measuring cup and its detergent right in with the clothes. If I add oxygen bleach, I throw that into the top as well. The detergent dispenser drains right into the tub if you add a liquid. If you use powder, it is washed into the tub at the start of the wash cycle. To avoid gumming up the dispenser, I simply don't use it, but water still accumulates in it whether I use it or not.

I guess all these electronic boards in applinaces these days are like computers....sometimes you just have to reboot them. Hope you dryer works well now.

I have a Frigidiare FL and I don't worry about the water left in the dispenser drawer...it will just evaporate. About once a year I clean out the dispenser, as I do use fabric softner. But the flushing action of the water seems to keep it very clean...never have seen any fabric softner build up. Much easier to deal with than those yucky agitator-mounted fabric softner dispensers in top loaders that you have to take out, disassemble and then scrub all the time.
