Here's a Frigidaire film that I had never seen before entitled "Out of This World". The first three minutes or so are is dreary GM propaganda, set against the backdrop of the 1964 World's Fair in NYC, but then you get to see some fun (and VERY campy) footage of Dream Kitchens Around The World: Lots of wall ovens, Refrigerators, and Flairs (including one prototype Flair that I think was supposed to have a microwave oven in it.

Rest assured that our happy housewife, after globehopping through kitchens far and near, finds herself back in her own dear colonial kitchen, where she has cooked a huge piece of meat worthy of 1960's America ;-)

Very cool! Was that refrigerator cart actually produced?

I did have to laugh at the one line--"look how much that dishwasher holds" for obvious reasons...

*ducks and runs*

If I remember correctly the YouTube version has the washer cut out of it, the full version can be seen at the archive.org...

Thanks for the link to the director's cut, Robert! I've been interrupted both times I've started to watch it, but I already love the trippy, sci-fi opening with its spacy, unsettling music.

They just don't make 'em like they used to.

I was wondering why they didn't have anything about washers! For my money, they should have taken all that drippy business about submarine trains and harvesting the rain forest out and just had the appliances.

Interesting flick! Although it's a video about the future, it shows the short-sightedness of the time in maintaining the earth's natural resources. The showcase of the appliances were very good, espically the Flairs...I want one of those fridge carts!!!

One of the comments is about housewives and women's work, which was stereotypical of the sixties too. I find it interesting the way the housewife stereotype was played up in the fifties and sixties with the SAME women that built airplanes and worked in other factories during World War II!

We actually went to the 1964 Worlds Fair in New York! We stayed at a hotel in Manhattan and took the subway to Flushing each day.
What I remember most was the Ford exhibit, they debuted the Mustang at the fair.
I remember the General Motors exhibit, but not the appliances.
I also remember the UniRoyal tire ferris wheel. I understand that it still exists somewhere in Michigan as a billboard.

Frigidaire and Sears Films

Thanks for the heads-ups about these classic films. Good thang I have DSL broadband or else these would take forever to download. As we speak, the Frigidaire "Out of this World" (300 MB for the MPEG-1) and the Sears "Freeze-in" film (204 MB for the MPEG--1) are downloading into my Western Digital Passport external drive, which is designated as my "E" drive. Once these downloads are completed, I can have all the fun I want in playing them back *without the worry of interrupted streams or broken links.* By the way, help yourselves to "The Wonderful World of Wash 'N' Wear." The 269 MB MPEG-1 (and other format choices) are available by visiting the following link.--Laundry Shark

Mother Takes a Holiday

Already have this one (both file parts included) as part of my Vintage Appliance Video collection. I have played it several dozen times and still do not grow tired of it. Thanks for the reminder of this one.--Laundry Shark
