To celebrate having unrestricted waste water outflow capacity at the house in Ogden, I finally got the 63 Frigidaire Deluxe washer actually hooked up and ran a load of laundry through it.
I am in complete and total awe of how that machine washes... I have only been up close to a couple of Frigidaire washers in my life (one in a Wildwood, NJ laundromat - probably a commercial 1-18 and one in a high school friend's house - it looked like an Imperial and it was very definitely turquoise!). I can't beli eve how lucky I was to stumble across this one! I can't wait to use it again!
I took a bunch of videos, here's the washer filling and washing for the first time!

Final Spin

I have taken videos of each phase of the cycle, but I haven't posted each one - if you would like to see them all, try searching Frigidaire WDAC63 and they should all be there.
The results? The towels and spa robes I threw in there were clean and lint-free and barely damp! My late grandmother would have deemed them perfect for ironing. They dried in no time flat. Wow! I think I am in love with this washer!!! LOL

A question?

Is there a water level option for these tpe machines?...or do they only operate at full tub of water?....like could you wash with half of a load?

Water level control

Interesting that you should ask me about that! I thought it was really odd how the water level selection is part of the main timer... You can set the machine for a regular or small load when you start the machine. I think I read in a Frigidaire Tech-Talk bulletin that they dropped this style of water level control in 1964, but I could be wrong...

Great machine!
Don't you just love it.
I also have a '63 pair. My model number is WD-63. The water level is not part of the main timer but has a seperate water level control knob. You can choose either normal or small load.
I think if you level the machine better the spin will be less noisy.
Did your agitator cap come with the machine or did you find it someplace else? These are really hard to find. Mine is still missing. I've been searching for one for over 2 years with no luck.
Anyway, enjoy!

Now you see why we love our Frigidaires so much Paul!!!

These machines are time filled. The ones with the water level option switch the timer from incrementing once every 60 seconds to once every 40 seconds or there abouts.

looks great!

frigidaire is the best!!!

can't wait to get my rapidry custom imperial up and running, my other machine that i use is not rapidry, still does a great job but there is nothing like that rapidry spin! only thing better would be that 1140 spin of a unimatic i guess.

Paul, welcome to the club of astute, dedicated, intelligent, wise, and discerning people who love GM Frigidaire washers--like no other and incomprarable to say the least!! They kick butt!!! Now, if you've never bee near a Unimatic when running, I hope I am able to be in the same space when you experience that. I wanna see your facwe and reaction. it will be priceless!!! Bob

It's the bomb

I was really hoping you wouldn't like it at all and want to sell right away:) Enjoy it there is nothing that cleans as well as a Frigidare. I still think somebody outht to pick up the basic concept, and build a new machine with the same benefits. What a find!

Great videos! I see there are two controls beside the timer. I assume one is for temperatures, so what is the other one for? Or is one for the wash temperatures and the other for the rinse temperatures?

The machine is indeed rattling a bit but I see the outer cabinet is shaking somewhat so it could be the legs are not all touching the floor equally.

Thanks for sharing!

Louis

Poor flooring causing rattles

Louis & Gyrafoam - the rattling during the spin is due to bad flooring. When I tested the machine out in the garage on the cement floor, it was practically silent!
I think I am going to have to find a new job soon if for no other reason than to finance the construction of a better laundry room!
Robert - I have SO got the Frigidaire bug now... I must find one in turquoise!! Or perhaps Pink (stop making that face, Bob...) LOL
Thanks for all the comments about this one - I'm about to take off for a couple of weeks on vacation so I won't be posting for a bit.
Take care, all!!

Dude I found the spin cycle entertaining (the loud squeek of the brake and the shaking) And I commented that video.
