So. My obsession continues. It's sort of all encompassing! We are waiting for the seller of one of the stoves to "decide" on a price. :( Not a good sign for us.

In the meantime, I came across a vintage Frigidaire Flair Twin 30 range (white). This doesn't have that "Jetson Flair" that the seemingly more popular Flair with slide-out burners has - but this one is free.

I see LOTS of vintage Flair stoves (with the slide-out burners, double / single ovens), but have seen only a very few of the "Flair Twin 30" ranges.

Does anyone have any experience with this stove?

Hubbie says it doesn't do much for him - he likes the Jetson-like one - but it's hard to argue with "free", especially when our current (contemporary) stove is only working with one burner operational!

What i REALLY want is the 40" Flair, but there's no space. :(
Just wondered what you all thought.

Thanks!

I'd go for the Twin 30!

They were sort of the replacement for the traditional 40" double oven in a more compact format. I'm told that the slide outs often had issues with in-op burner coils due to stress on the wiring connections due to the constant sliding in & out. Not sure how prevalent this actually was?

BTW

I have a Frigidaire Flair 40" stove that I picked up for a song. But there is a Google Group of FF Fanatics too. Selling, buying and swapping parts.

Twin 30

Gives you double the oven capacity, cooks really well and upper oven door glides up like flair.  The only draw back is trying to put a stock pot on the left rear burner because it is impeded by the slanting glass.

Style and substance!

If the Twin 30 is in good working order and "cleanable" cosmetic condition, I'd go for it. In the same amount of space you get more cooking options. The T-30 lower oven is much larger and probably bakes even better than the Flair's. You still get the style and cool-factor of the upper oven door plus a second oven you'll use constantly.

I hadn't thought about the rear stock-pot limitations, but my 40" GE range doesn't accommodate my largest pot so I could live with that.

At the low, low price of "free" you don't have much to lose and can still find a reasonably priced Flair and try them both then chose one. Or, like some of us have done, move on to GE, Hotpoint, Kelvinator, Westinghouse - the fun never ends!

If there would be any Twin 30 ovens around, I'd really like to get one! Many also had an Electri-Clean oven, a feature that regular Flairs all lacked.

Twin30 vs 30" Flair

Since you prefer the 40" Flair over the 30", I think that the Twin 30 would be the perfect sllection between the two models you mentioned. The Twin 30 has a considerably larger main oven as well as the larger of two ovens available in the Flair design. Also, if the Twin 30 is a Custom Imperial, the Speed Heat and thermostatic burners as well as a temperature probe for the lower oven, I think this may also have a pull n clean oven cavity. Either way, what a great find!!!!!

The Twin 30 trades storage space for a second larger oven. The early ones still had a Flair-style upper oven and Pull-N-Clean lower oven and the newer ones had Electri-Clean lower ovens.

I guess most spare parts are easier to get for most Flair ranges (the first two models from 1960-63 being the easiest to find).

Here in Canada, we had Flairs but no Twin 30 ranges.  That's probably why I'd really like to get a Twin 30 as I've never seen one!
