Frigidaire GE Dishmobile for sale

Hi,

I recently moved, and my new house has no room in the kitchen for my Frigidaire GE Dishmobile portable dishwasher. It has panels on the sides and back, and a solid butcher-block top, so it acts well as a kitchen island or food prep area.

It leaks, not terribly, but enough to go through a couple of towels in a wash cycle. I do not know how to fix it, but I'm sure someone out there does.

Just an FYI that dishwasher is a Frigidaire GM dishwasher not a Frigidaire GE.

There appears to be a tower in the center of the DW, but the top rack looks like it's made to accommodate a spin-tube configuration.  Was this a first generation post-spin tube model?

You're right, it's as though they planned for a spin-tube under there after all, but it was this way from the first wash-arm machine to the last.

Does anyone know if this was just to use-up old stock when they went to the wash-arm SuperSurge design, or whether there ever was the idea of a wash-arm/spin-tube combination at some point?

The top racks from the spray tube models (even the last ones from 1964) and later "Super Surge" models like this one are similar-looking but still quite different. And so is the way you load them!

If you can show pictures of the bottom of the machine, it would be great. These Plastisol-covered tanks often bubble and rust-out either near the pump or on the tracks for the lower rack. The leak could be something else but it could be there too.

I do have similar machines and if you would be just a bit closer, I'd be interested to buy yours even if it leaks! Tell me if I'm wrong but the model number should be somethig like DW-IMP. (it's visible on a plate just under the wood top when you open the door.

Direct comparison

Interesting.  I always loaded the two the same; I put glasses down the side channels immediately adjacent to the hump in the middle; in the spin-tube, this is more angled.  But if I put them anywhere else, they didn't get hit by the tower, and tended not to get clean.

 

I probably need to go to remedial loading school.

I did the same thing Nate for the same reason.  the outside edges of the racks were for cups, mugs, and short squatty glasses.  And yes, in the spintube, always angled for everything, like the mouth was open, waiting to be sprayed.  A  friend of my parents remarked her glasses always looked much better when I loaded than when she loaded (1963 spintube).

I emailed the seller. He is only about an hour from me. I am going to check and see if one of my roto-rack portables works (has been sitting untested in my basement) and possibly trade.

I was thinking the same thing about the plastisol tub. If the tub is in good shape, I will use it to restore the custom imperial I have from the same vintage. If the tub is in bad shape, it will be good to have for parts.
