Do any of the members here remember the feature film catridge projections that GM automobiles and FRIGIDAIRE had to show their bproducts in action and describe all of the features they had? it consisted of a projector that took a cartridge or packet like a video caset.You chose which appliance you wanted to view and placed the cartridge in. Then,you press start and a film showing all the features began to play.There were two different people. A man or a woman,who illustrated and spoke about these appliances and showed them in full operation.i think my two favorites were the Jet Action 1-18 and the Super Surge dishwasher.In 1972,the Touch-N-Cook range cartridge came out.Norman R.Mitchell(a friend of mine who owned an Appliance,T.V and Furniture store in Baltimore)had to order another video casset on both the 1-18 washers and Touch-N-Cook ranges because I played them more than any other.Some of the neates lines were,"The Frigidaire Jet Cone Agitator.No Beating,Pounding or pulling. just surging currents of water through your clothes." "Then comes Frigidaire's Rapidry spin.It spins so fast that loads feel lighter and dry faster in the matching Flowing Heat dryer."

If anyone here knows or has heard of any of these,please let me know!When WCI got Frigidaire,these films as well as the projectors vanished into thin frigid air--LOL They would be a great addition to anyone's collection and could be redone in such a way that we could all laugh about.

One of the other residents here took me to the anual Chocolate Festival where they one first prize for the second time for their home-made truffles.We had a blast and danced the night away with some beautiful women who just loved their truffles!It was sponsered by and took place at the Kona Hilton located right on the Pacific and most of the property it is on was full of pumice that had formed there after the site was finished. Seating and walkways made by the latest volcano eruption there were done tastefully and there were hundreds of teaky tourches that illuminated the area and added to the decore.

We had the projector and films in the mid 70's when we sold new Frigidaires. All that was sent back to Frigidaire.

GM Technicolor Films

Ah, GM films. My dealings with the films go back years, but I'll leave the technical portion for Cory to fill in. About 13 or 14 years ago my dad's buddy called him up on a Sunday afternoon and asked if he wanted the old Buick films from the then defunct Burdett Buick in Waterloo. We hauled home boxes and boxes of the films, along with the projector and the player booth. Unfortunately the player wouldn't play the films. At that time I had no idea what the issue was and realized I wouldn't be able to fix it. I ended up giving the player and the cartridges to Cory.

The players are hard to find these days in working condition. A plastic gear easily strips out and causes the shutter (??) to not operate. Other companies used the format as well, I think I've even seen some Amway films on ebay.

Since then I pick up the film cartridges where possible, and Cory has found a few players here and there along with Cadillac films. Recently I found a load of Oldsmobile and Chevrolet films at a dealer closing here in Waterloo. He bought the stash and on a cold afternoon we loaded up a few films. For those who have not seen the films, check out the Youtube video I posted a while back on the 1974 Chevys vs. Fords, to get an idea of what the content was like. Always a good time!

IIRC, one of the reasons why they are hard to find today eludes to what Kenny mentioned. Some auto dealers were on a rotation to have the cartridges traded in for the new model year. The last cartridges I've seen are from 1979, which ironically in 1979 and 1980 GM started using the Discovision medium as a replacement to the old technicolor cartridges. Some of the distrubitors were pretty strict about it and as Kenny said, would require that you send them back, which they would recycle the cartridge and load up a new film. I would suspect the same applied for Frigidaire dealers too.
