This fridge is a 1964 special economy model that's styled like a 1962 Deluxe. Frigidaire kept making some 1962 Deluxe models in 1963-64.  It's a Cycla-Matic and the exterior is not porcelain as it's colored (porcelain finish was only available on white fridges). The instruction manual covers both the porcelain-finish model PFDS-13T-2 and this model FDS-13T-2.

That's the Rosemary's Baby fridge, only in Turquoise instead of Sunny Yellow.

Just For Grits 'n Giggles....

I looked up the first post where I polled AW members to see who might know something about the Rosemary's Baby fridge.

It was posted on December 17th, 2007, meaning it has been six years and one month finding a complete answer. There were a couple of posts in the years since where we determined it was a Frigidaire, and probably a Deluxe, but the model year and number didn't get pinned down until today.

Which goes to show you - patience pays around here.

Sandy, fridges with this exact outside appearance were made 3 years in a row in both Cycla-Matic and Frost-Proof versions for a total of 8 possible models (changed again during-1964 for a total of 4 that year!) as the models changed each year. In 1962, there was the FD-13T-62 and FPD-14T-62, in 1963 there was the FDS-13T-1 and FPDS-14T-1, in 1964 there was the FDS-13T-2, FDS-13T-3, FPDS-14T-2 and FPDS-14T-3...  And if it were white, there would be even more possible models available as some had porcelain exterior finish and a different model number... 

 

One thing is sure, The fridge in Rosemary's baby is either a 1962, 1963 or 1964 Deluxe model!  And if it's a Cycla-Matic, it's a 13 cu-ft model and if it's a Frost-Proof, it's a 14 cu-ft model.

 

There were some internal changes on some models, the most important one being that the 1963 and 1964 Frost-Proof version didn't have a second fan motor and a cold plate in the refrigerated food section as they had in 1962 and before. 

 

Unless there's a scene that shows the inside or a close up view at what's written on the freezer door badge, it's hard to be more precise on the identification!

Thank you very much for the additional information and for the cautionary advice.

Unfortunately, Rosemary does not go into her fridge and let you see inside during the movie. There are also no shots showing the badge clearly - and trust me, I have been over the film frame-by-frame, grabbing and blowing up lots of stills from the Criterion DVD release, which is clearer than the standard Paramount DVD.

As odd as it seems, moviemakers focus on the actors, instead of on the appliances, where the real interest is, LOL!

Yes, it's really '60s, and HOW I wish I could identify it! I remember it from back in the day, and cannot for the life of me recall who made it. I think it was Mikasa, but extensive searching has brought up exactly nothing. Here's a clear shot of one of the plates; if anyone knows the pattern, I'm all ears:

It's not Mikasa....it's Langley Sherwood from England. Langley at some point became part of Denby.

The Movie Gods Smile on Sandy!

Thanks to the encouraging progress I've made on Rosemary's Baby identifications in this thread, I decided to dig deep for another elusive item - the Woodhouse's stereo.

Thanks to the clarity of the new Criterion DVD, I was able to tweak a frame grab enough to tell that the brand name on the handle was Zenith. It took two hours, but eventually, the Internet yielded a year and a model name and number.

It's a 1965 Registrar model, with a model number of MPS85. Very interesting that in 1967 when the movie was made, that they were so careful to find stuff a couple of years old, to fit the 1965 time frame of the story. The speakers are detached in this view:

That's a reason why I really like HD movies! There's an internet database where people identify cars in movies. It would be nice to have such a site to identify various household items in movies!

Sandy- thanks for the compliment, wish I could claim I was some whiz at identifying tableware...but call it a lucky guess. The cup/saucer and sugar bowl just made me think Denby.

What interests me is, what made you think of a British pottery?

Most Americans have forgotten, if they ever knew, that British ironstone sold quite well here in the '60s and '70s. Langley and Midwinter were two of the most popular here. Midwinter's Earth was a huge hit here - for those who could afford it; it was very expensive.

So expensive, in fact, that when I found a complete service for eight in a thrift in the '90s, priced at $14.95, I almost dropped my teeth. That wouldn't have bought much more than a cup and saucer when it was new.

The town I am from had a jewelry store that did brisk business selling high end tableware up through the early 90's. Many people here still have sets of Denby/Langley etc. I don't know anyone who has Midwinter. My family still has several sets of Denby- you can't wear the stuff out.

I give you the Zenith Piedmont Space Command 600 of 1974, which appeared in the movie "The Omen" ('77?). Here seen in my living room circa 2013, still active as an entertainer.

Rather correct casting in the Omen, because it was in the home of a US ambassador (iirc) and was a very high-end piece when new. It includes a capacitive-touch stereo w/320 watt amp and 15" woofers. Doors slide over the screen when not in use. Zenith's last "real" TOL home theater. Picture obviously better without a flash, but I was so amazed to see a test-pattern being broadcast late at night rather than an asinine infomercial, I simply reacted with my cameraphone!

That's a nice Zenith! I've been following a regular Space Command 600 TV on local classifieds for a while. There's no asking price. I just emailed the seller about it. I think it will be rather on the high side since he says in his ad that the remote alone sells to collectors... Well, we'll see!

That's a nice set shown in the link, vintage '70-'71.

Realistically, there is little demand for big consoles and I'd be much more impressed if one of his pictures showed the set as "functional", regardless of picture quality. Just like old appliances they require a specialized skill set to get them into optimum/reliable shape.

I've got a few unrestored Zenith space commands that are free to a good home! I haven't the heart to junk them, nor the time to work on them.

It's working great. A wonderful machine and a good daily driver! On the way back to Virginia, inside my van, I carried it, both halolights, and a set of Westinghouse twins. They all arrived as fresh as when they left. Anything is possible with proper packing. Lol
