Frigidaire stacked washer/ dryer

I am dog sitting for some friends from church and they have a Frigidaire top load stacked washer and dryer. I have not used many washers or dryers that I dont like, but this is one of them! The washer does not wash well at all, because the tub turns as the agitator moves, spinning the whole load in a circle, the load sizes are really weird (I have only used large and medium) large is almost full and medium barely covers the fins on the agitator! The (electric) dryer takes forever to dry anything(45-50 minutes to dry 2 cotton sheets), i lost count the last time I dried towels! does anybody else have one of these, and do you like it, why or why not?

its a normal size stacked combo, it just doesnt work very well. it is 220v.

I had one in a mobile home that I owned. We had poor water pressure, so I had to restart it in order to get it completely filled, and it didn't wash very well. The dryer took forever, but I found out that the dryer vent was all plugged up with lint. Once I got all the lint out the dryer did dry quicker. I used it for a couple of months, then bought a Kenmore DD with DA agitator, and gave the skinny mini to the guy I bought the mobile home from.

I washed a load of towels and put them for about 65 minutes on high, cleaned the tiny lint filter 3 times during the cycle, and when it got down to 20 minutes, i put it back to 40. 85 minutes to dry a load of towels! It gets incredibly hot, too, and the vent looks clean. then I washed a load of mostly jeans, I think it was 4 pairs of jeans and some shorts, I dried those on low heat so they wouldnt shrink, and those took about 90 minutes.

Vent.

Find the vent outside and make sure the damper is operable and that the vent isn't clogged. Maybe there's a blockage in the vent run someplace. Whatever the issue is, that dryer should perform better, regardless of its design deficiencies.

I dont think there IS a vent outside. the vent goes down into the floor and I think thats it. The laundry room floor gets warm when the dryer is on...

My grandparents had one of these and it was horrible. It had the straight vane agitator and it was rough on the clothes, and made a terrible racket and shook like crazy when spinning. The dryer was no better, taking at least an hour and a half just to dry a load. They absolutely hated that thing.

Venting

It sounds like that dryer has an exhaust venting problem. If the household uses fabric softener, exhaust vent buildup is much worse as the lint is sticky from the FS. In my opinion, a dryer is a dryer. If it takes a long time, there are only four suspects. 1) clothes are too wet from the washer, 2)dryer overloading, 3) dryer air flow is restricted, 4) heat source is failing.

Air flow is usually the culprit.

I think these machines are designed for washing small loads as needed between trips to the coin op laundry.

We had a GE set and they were the worst machines I have ever used!

I have to disagree. If OP is referring to the large unit I have none of those problems. I've installed these in two houses and have been pleased. However, mine have always been Kenmore TOL. I believe the units are the same with the exception of the ag.

I installed one of these full size units for my MIL, gas dryer, it is a Kenmore, works pretty good, been 8 years so far and no problems, washes nicely and dries in record time equal to the washer, the washer did need the water level bumped up, full selection gave a 3/4 tub of water, the indexing tub with the dual action agitator handles the loads with no effort, I can't complain, although I would have like to have a porcelain tub instead of plastic, the controls at eye level are nice and many cycles and options to choose from, and the slide out hanger rack is a help....she also has the Whirlpool full size ThinTwin in the basement, just as nice and efficient....the raised dryer is really nice for seniors where they don't have to bend over to unload, also no clothes dropped on the floor when transferring from machine to machine.....dry times for hers may be shorter because their both gas units and/or the duct run is less than a foot straight out the back wall...

More venting.

If the vent just goes into the floor, it's a seriously bad situation. The lint buildup in the joist cavity is a fire hazard and also a mold and mildew magnet. Unless they're designed to be vented indoors (like a Frigidaire Filtrator or a condenser dryer), dryers become serious health and safety hazards if not vented outdoors.
