Advantage Note

Most people want an effective machine that cleans clothes well (minimal pre-treating), does not cause premature wear to clothing and does not mangle or tangle and choice of at least two speeds. A hand wash setting if not too expensive or troublesome. Pre-sets to match the load being washed (temps and speeds) Features that are troublesome and not likely to fail before the transmission/mechanism wears out.

mechanism

a disc type friction clutch was used,a magnetic coil providing pressure on the clutch discs-voltage to the coil modulated by a transistorized circuit monitoring clutch output RPM-a very high slippage rate for low speeds with this arrangement :)

Durable speed control

I cannot imagines this speed control arrangement being very durable. Especially with prolonged use at low speeds. There must have been something that needed repair frequently not to continue making such a speed control that was variable.

I think the WXL was matched with the DCIL which was also the match to the WCIL I used to have. Frigidaire certainly was innovative with their machines. I know that the small tub in comparison to other machines had to have hindered them some until they came out with the 1-18 models. Makes me wonder why they didn't just go to a larger solid tub machine. I really couldn't see any big advantage to perforated tubs. I mean, how much sand really gets into your washer if you shake it out of clothing before washing it? I know solid tub machines used less water as a rule and I'm sure it was easier on tub seals too not to have to hold that water all the time also. When machine drying, anything left in the clothes gets removed by the dryer anyway.
