Hello everyone!

Could anyone know more or less what year this washer is, and what model number it will be? I assume it must be from the immediate years after GM sold Frigidaire to WCI.

I've seen others from that era that are complete Westinghojuse clones but the curious thing is that the lint filter on this one is identical to the one used on the genuine 1-18s.

They are offering it on Marketplace for $70. Any advice? I really like how it looks and I have never seen one here in Venezuela.

I await your comments.

This would’ve been one of the 2nd edition washers after Frigidaire sold to WCI. The first versions still looked like the 1-18 machines externally. I would say this washer was built around 1983. It’s a cool piece of washer history and if it were local to me I’d probably get it for histories sake but I never could stand the indexing of the wash basket personally.

Thanks Melvin!

I will take your opinion and buy the washing machine. I really want to discover in person what the Westinghouse top load platform was like.

I hope I don't need any very critical spare parts, or if that is the case, that I can manufacture them because I know they are scarce. In any case, I don't plan to use it on a daily basis.

Thank you very much again, and thank you for the pics Glenn. I will post photos when I have it, with the help of God

I always liked the look of the control panels of these, and that agitator is pretty cool looking also, but I remember those control panels not having a solid feel when you pulled out the timer knob, the control panel buckled more than others.

You should go for it, yes. These are part of History now.

“When the pump leaked it fried the motor”

That was probably one of the biggest design flaws/weak point of these particular machines. From what I gather, that’s what took those machines out of service fairly quickly, explains why they are tricky to find these days.

A Maytag on the other hand, it’s pump would last for a long, long time, would last for eternity when you added a drop of oil every now and again.

pump atop motor

Most of these i have delt with, the pump had not leaked and there is a drip pan with close fitting shaft hole under the pump.On my 1975 westy awaiting replacement motor, water may have seeped into the upper bushing...I have heard of trouble with the solenoid lid lock on these and also the clutch belt is very small compaired to other brands using a clutch belt."Horizon 2000"WCI washers-Franklin,introduced around 1990,also had pump on top of the motor until mid-1990s
