I would like to ask the resident experts their ideas on trouble shooting an autodry problem I have with a Frigemore dryer. This dryer is the match to my frontload washer. They both have the touch pad controls with the oval display. The dryer does not shut off when the clothes are appropriatly dry, rather it will run till it runs to long and the F5 error occurs. The manual said if this run too long error occurs, that the duct should be checked. I did this and the duct is clear. I did some online research and also asked a Sears Repairman that I ran into in a Starbucks, what might be causing the auto dry problem. He thought it might be the thermistor located on the blower duct. I changed the thermistor and that did not cure the problem. It is also annoying that this problem has occured shortly after the warranty has expired (naturally) and the fact that the dryer is at my vacation home and is used at most one or two times a month. Any help that you can lend is greatly appreciated. I dont want to be stuck using timed dry. Thats just not fun.

Thanks

If the auto-dry is MOL thermostatic, it will run forever if the dryer is located in a cold location.

But it sounds like the auto-dry in quesiton is electronic and with moisture sensors.

I am beginning to HATE computerized controls for just this reason. Not reliable.

To answer some of your questions: The dryer vent runs up then thru the wall. A total run of no more then 3 feet. The duct from the dryer to the outside vent is the flexible aluminium accordian type duct. The run too long error occurs regardless of the dryness setting. I dried the same load of towels 4 times to test that theory.

So all that being said, do you think its the main control board? Or is there someway to check the moisture sensor. Is the moisture sensor the set of 2 metal strips mounted by the lint filter on the drum side?

Thanks

Re: Possible Problem:

"BTW" do you happen to use Fabric Softener Sheets? If you do, try this simple test, that was Posted some time ago. Take your Lint Filter out and hold it under your Sink Faucet, to see if the Water Flows out or "Puddles" on the Filter. If it "Puddles, the Filter needs to be Washed. Use some Mild Dish Soap and a soft Bristle Brush to clean the Mesh of the Filter. Then check the Water Flow through the Filter again, to see if you got all of the excess Fabric Softener our of the Mesh Screen. Repeat this procedure until the whole Mesh area is allowing Water to Flow through it. Hopefully this will help, at least for any other possible problems this will help them as well. Good Luck with getting your Dryer operating properly again, I agree with "Toggles" I don't like Electronic Control Machines as much as Mechanical operation either as much.

Peace and back to basics, Steve

Re: Thank You:

Louis, I did forget that other most important item to check and clean, being the Electronic Moisture Sensors, besides the Lint Filter Screen. :o)

Sorry kids, but I am dead-set against dryer softener sheets. Using less detergent will work just as well.

Pollutes the air
Destroys the machine
HUGE fire hazard
Greasy-oily spots on clothing.
Stinks worse than @$$

This last bit of GREAT advice above in the other panels, soldifies (to me) my own belief.

Update to the continuing problem

While I rarely use the softener sheets, I checked the lint filter and its clear. I cleaned the moisture sensing contacts just to be sure, but the auto dry still doesnt work. Is there some sort of diagnostic mode tht I can use to check the various components? The FL washer has the diagnostic function which I have tried out, but I could not get the dryer into one.

If all else fails do you guys think its the main control?

Thanks for any input
