Hmmm...

Thats early 70's vintage, I have a '71 catalog with a similar mixer available in green or gold.
It does look like Westinghouse, but the bowls look like Hamilton Beach.
More pics please Dan?

I would agree..

on the vintage, the ones in the '71 catalog are not as ornate as this, and were more MOL models.
It looks very Westinghouse to me.
The speed control as part of the handle is very cool!

Dan, congratulations! Those vintage Kenmore mixers are quite powerful and put out a TON of torque, so be especially careful of them around spatulas...one slip and bye-bye, beaters. I know by experience, LOL.

Knapp Monarch

This mixer was produced for Sears from 1956 until the early 70,s. When it changed to the round body design with the silver speed "slide" on the front of the mixer, it was made by Scoville (Hamilton Beach)
While the first models were more reminiscent of Westinghouse, they were made by Knapp Monarch. It 1956, when Sunbeam was rated not acceptable by Consumer Guide, due to freezing issues with the beater spindles, Kenmore was the recommended as the best mixer to buy that year.
This mixer is very powerful and as Westy can attest, the beaters are the Achille's tendon of this machine. The drive pegs on the top of the beaters are small and the torque of the mixer shears them off in chunks of cold butter or the errant spatula.
The governor action is fun and a bit odd. When moving the speed dial, it revvs a bit and then settles to the desired speed. Kind of like a 3 second delay.
The rim on the bottom of the bowl is the same circumference as HB but is 4 quart and HB was 3 quart for all the mixers with joined beater assemblies.

Thanks for the info. Do you think that chocolate chips or nuts would cause the beaters issues? I make a lot of cookies :-)

I bought this for more of a "daily driver" because the Sunbeam is pretty, and I don't want to wreck it.

Nuts to you, Buddy!

Dan,
My experience has been that all normal mixing, nuts and chips, will do just fine. It is when a large unyielding object comes in contact, that you are at risk. As time goes by, you can inspect the prongs and notice if they are begin to bend or wear. I'll keep my eyes out for another set of beaters so you'll have a set in reserve. Enjoy, it is a real work horse.

Nice mixer. I have a couple of HB's, one marked Sears and the other is Hamilton Beach,,the rounded ones. I think I saw a similar one to that at one of the junktique stores near here so I'll take a better look next time. I don't wanna collect any more mixers!!! but I did just happen across a nice Model 12 last week I brought home for a measly $2.50. Missing the large bowl but those are easy to come across. I oiled it, turned it on and must have had the bowl in the wrong position because they jammed and bent immediately LOL.. good thing those are easy to find as well.

Heres a pic of it..

In a Jam

If the beaters jammed, it is possible the set screw for the gears, to the spindle, is loose. With the mixer off, try a beater in each socket. If one of them turns freely, you will need to tighten the set screw so that the spindle turns when the gear revolves. If that's the case, let me know and I'll talk you in.
