Knapp Monarch
This mixer was produced for Sears from 1956 until the early 70,s. When it changed to the round body design with the silver speed "slide" on the front of the mixer, it was made by Scoville (Hamilton Beach)
While the first models were more reminiscent of Westinghouse, they were made by Knapp Monarch. It 1956, when Sunbeam was rated not acceptable by Consumer Guide, due to freezing issues with the beater spindles, Kenmore was the recommended as the best mixer to buy that year.
This mixer is very powerful and as Westy can attest, the beaters are the Achille's tendon of this machine. The drive pegs on the top of the beaters are small and the torque of the mixer shears them off in chunks of cold butter or the errant spatula.
The governor action is fun and a bit odd. When moving the speed dial, it revvs a bit and then settles to the desired speed. Kind of like a 3 second delay.
The rim on the bottom of the bowl is the same circumference as HB but is 4 quart and HB was 3 quart for all the mixers with joined beater assemblies.
