When I lived in the big city, I was friends with a married couple who were pinching pennies. They had 2 little girls, and lots of laundry. The wife would buy these 220VAC stacked washer/dryer combos on the local CL in order to get parts for her own stacked washer dryer. It seems a lot of people had bought this particular brand, but then found out their new house/apt didn't have 220. (Sadly I don't remember which brand, but it was a European brand as I recall). This particular brand was very expensive, but since the sellers were in a bind, the stacked versions generally sat on CL for weeks as few people wanted a 220 washer and dryer. The wife would watch, and after the ad had been on CL for a couple of weeks would offer $50 and the sellers took the money, and I'd drive over and pick up the units and bring them back to my friends' garage. So one day she calls me and asks me to come over and help disassemble 2 of the dryers. I don't remember exactly which part she was trying to find, but we had to remove the drum inside each dryer. We work and work, and finally get the drum out, and there are 12 or 13 SINGLE kids' socks between the drum and the cabinet. YES, DRYERS DO INDEED EAT SOCKS! When we pulled the other drum out there was a single $20 bill inside, which I got to keep for my pay!
