I do wonder if it's possible to build a wooden cabinet for one of these older machines? E.G. an 80s Whirlpool BD/DD with a cabinet made completely out of wood that's maybe polished and lacquered. Probably would have been a special order thing for some elderly person in the 80s or 90s lol. Any woodworkers in here?

I imagine it’s possible, but would be an engineering challenge. You’d have to use strong wood and beef it up quite a bit, may end up being heavier than metal once everything is all said and done.

Yes,

AND you would have to get it so that all the small slots and tabs for the hardware is rigid enough to not break off overtime.

Wood cabinet...

I think this would be awesome, but like others said, an engineering challenge. I would imagine the costs would be pretty expensive, as well.

By the way, how is your Kenmore belt drive coming along?

Matt:

The belt drive is sitting off to the side for right now until I can figure out a solution to get it hooked up semi-permanently. Plus, I still have to fix the leaks on it. Need to source a new pump and then figure out where it's leaking from on the tub.

I might add, it would be fun to build a wood cabinet for experimentation purposes, but I honestly don’t feel like giving appliance manufacturers any more ideas.
