I don't watch TV so I often watch YouTube videos in the evenings. I happened to think about the old Galloping Gourmet food programmes so I had a look for them. It makes me feel old now I see that these were made from 1969 to 1971 but the appliances do look to be from that era.

Graham

One of the first shows I watched about cooking after high school. I learned a lot from him. Always had that glass of wine. Turned out to be kind of a boozer.None the less a good program.

Sadly, Graham did become an a real boozer. Today, he lives here in Washington state. He first was in Tacoma (my home town) and ran a ministry. He found God after an accident in which his wife was almost killed. That's the early 80's. I went to several fundraisers where he cooked and it was always wonderful. Now he lives up state in Mt. Vernon and is about 80.
I remember the show for the booze, the silliness and I think it was usually Westinghouse appliances...

"Fannies Views".

Fido, I can not remember who posted what, I think it was Sandy. The Thread evolved into my introduction to "Fanny Cradock". After watching her "Wine and Cheese party", I really enjoyed her segments on cooking Holiday poultry. That then leads you to "The way we cooked, with "Graham Kerr". "Fanny" rubbed her goose and duck with honey. It's always good to see new methods of cookery. None of these vintage cooks are diet conscious, they are semi frugal with food and have a sense of the $ amount you put in the grocery cart. alr

Sandy, I think "Fanny" was ahead of her time more than a ballgown, a "powersuit" would of been more appropriate. Thanks for the tip on her vids. arthur

The appliances and kitchen units in the Fanny Cradock programmes look a lot more dated, even ones from the mid '70s but they were filmed in England whereas I think GG was in Canada.

When I first watched TFC, they were the old B&W programs and she used Thermador appliances with the huge cooktop with 6 or 7 surface units and the side-by-side wall ovens with window doors. She kept several surface units on a various heat settings to have instant heat. In watching older programs, I am amazed by her cavalier handling of raw poultry and then touching all sort of other things without washing her hands.

Somehow I think food quality was never an issue for her. The hysteria over raw meats is a result of compromised (by now almost entirely dysfunctional) food quality standards in the U.S., which began years after these older shows. Or in other words my parents had the same absolute disregard for raw meats and in 40+ years we never got sick from it. Trust your food sources and you won't need to worry about disease.
