OK, here goes. I got a great KitchenAid batch feed disposer (an old Hobart), and of course, KitchenAid no longer has the gaskets available for replacement. Viking Corp. has taken over the Hobart disposer line, but won't sell parts to the public. After blasting several people in customer service, the best they could say was "try to match up the gaskets at Home Depot." Any suggestions before I go postal???

Hooverwheelaway,
Tried this, they said they can't get parts. They contact Viking, and Viking will usually replace the product. Sounds like a load of BS to me. I like Toggles idea better. Any others?

Jeff,
I need the sink flange gasket and the main flange gasket that sits on the disposer body top. A neoprene plug for the DW drain would lower my blood pressure, too! Don't even think about commenting, Toggles. LOL

easy....

OK go to your nearest Ace or True Value Hardware, TAKE THE SINK FLANGE WITH YOU and head for the plumbing asile. A store clerk should be able to help you. What you want to ask for is sink hub gaskets. Show the clerk the flange and explain what you're doing. The gaskets should be easily spotted amongst the basket strainers.
You'll also want a little tub of plumbers putty.
Use plumbers putty on the between the sink flange/sink(your current disposal is installed this way most likely)
ALSO, before you go, measure the inside width of the dishwasher spout and ask then where the stoppers are. You should be able to get both things pretty painlessly...
Keep us posted!

You make it sound too easy, Jeff. I usually blow one of my own gaskets before anything gets done. I'll try your idea. I have to go to the hardware store tonight to get tie straps for the washer anyway.

You'll do fine...

Swapping a disposal is pretty easy, shouldn't take you more than an hour anyway. I am not familiar wity the KA's mounting, I wish I could help you more!

Jeff,
It's totally different from the ISE. I can send you a copy of the install guide that a doll from this club gave to me. A moron could install an ISE. (I put in my own, there's proof!) The KD's are different. Let me know if you want a copy. I can bring it to St. Louis.

I knew they were different

KA uses a totally different mount than ISE, and I agree most any idiot could install an ISE.
I wish those Viking models were still available, I would SO buy one!

If the Ace Hardware store doesn't have gaskets-or you don't have one-try to get an inner tube and cut gaskets from it.A new inner tube should give you enough material to work with-this would be for last resort.Farm supply places often still have inner tubes-one for a small garden tractor may work.I have used inner tubes for gaskets-made a gasket for a blender from one.The rubber they are made from is just right thickness and durablility.I think thats weird that Viking couldn't supply gaskets.

Better than a gun: www.thathomesite.com Start a topic under Appliances complaining about the manufacturer. Be sure to write your stuff in a way that gives you maximum credibility and does not sound like "bitching." Then call them again and give them the URL to go look up what you're broadcasting to a few hundred thousand people. That should take care of that.

Of course, after they come through (or if they don't), keep the topic up to date.

Designgeek,
Good call. I'm very good at bitching, so I'll have to do some fancy wordplay. I just cannot believe Viking won't supply to the outside. I think I'm going to call back and speak to a higher up. God help 'em.
Jeff,
I did find a few dealers that still have them in stock, just be prepared to shell out $500.
