But Louis....

How much gasoline/petrol/essence can your Smart hold?

Three demi-tasse? Two Heineken bottles?

Love and laughter (and you have email)

And you have reply mail too ;-)

Here's a picture of the new Smart.

Love those Smarts . . .

There are a very few around here in Los Angeles . . . I saw one of the little "roadster" versions on New Years Day. I know some of them are brought in via manufacturers, but I'm not sure about the others as Smart has never submitted them for US safety and emissions approval.

Diesel prices here in LA (my VW is diesel) have now dropped below $3.00 gallon; my last tank was at $2.87/gal. That is a nice change from up to $3.49/gal that I paid last year!

I went to breakfast this morning with a friend in his '65 Buick Wildcat, and we stopped for gas . . . believe me it takes a lot of gas to fill that up!

here in the Chicago burbs

$2.11 a gallon by me, Michael lives down in Joliet, where I saw it for $1.97 this morniing!

What pisses me off and everyone I suppose is how they jack the gas prices up a few days before any long weekend or holiday or at the first mention of oil prices increasing but they never lower them at the same lightning speed. Instead the go up in a flash and drop at a snails pace taking a week or longer, at least that's what happens around here. Like just before Christmas the price jumped to about 86 cents a litre and once New Years was over it's been coming down. Today it was 75.6 cents. You have to remember too that when they price in litres, every penny is actually almost 4 cents a gallon, so a 10 cent increase at the pump is more like 40 cents a gallon.

Well, it's definitely supposed to go up by next week's end, so at least we have this count, and people can (if possible) tank up now instead of then....

See, with electric cars, they wouldn't be able to play these games...

Filled my V8 pickup today...

Regular was $1.99 per gallon at the local Exxon. I am dumbfounded that it actually went below $2!!!

$2.41 in SF Bay Area

California tends to have higher gas prices than the rest of the lower 48 for a variety of reasons, including: government mandated addition of oxygenators to the fuel in summer (used to be MTBE, now it's ethanol), higher state taxes, special anti-smog formulations other than oxygenation, limited West Coast refinery capacity, somewhat isolated from main domestic areas of oil production and gas refining (those Sierra Nevada mountains are quite high), and they charge more per gallon because they can.

My '78 Dodge pickup truck gets about 13-16 mpg on the highway. Not great, but then it's got a very handy lumber rack that is a big windcatcher. Just got through shelling out $400 for a new set of tires... after the flat in SF picking up a the RCA Whirlpool set, I decided it was past time for a new set of tires. I only drive the truck when I need it to haul something. Most of my driving is in my '97 Neon (about 24 mpg), or the '50 Plyumouth (about 20 mpg). My motorcycle used to get 40+ mpg, but haven't ridden it since the hit-and-run indident last May.
