The actual preference itself is innate, IMHO. The activities one chooses to engage in (when they are different from one's pre-set attractions) may be learned.
How do we explain Ancient Greece (before Christianity screwed-up a healthier view of sexuality)?
The men had wives and families, and the necessity and its place in society was esteemed. They also had a "student" (before he had a beard)) who was taught by the "mentor/teacher" (older and ususallly married man ("bearded")) one-on-one all the higher learnings; philosphy, thesophy, algebra, trigonometry, poetry, art, mathematics, etc. This kept that society as advanced as it was. The older men also taught their younger charges the fine art of the horizontal tango. When the students themselves became bearded it was time for them to take-charge and be on top of the situation.
Further it was believed that same-sex couplings was a far more intense love than M-F could ever be. So, what was the true preference of the people in that place at that time? It was believed and expected that seed was planted in any proper container, being of many varieties. Is true human nature to be sexual, period? I truly believe the attitude towards sexuality is learned on a societal level.
Anyone can do anything in terms of physical relations. For me the expected hetero role just doesn't feel right, and is physically and mentally (*love and yes lust*) lacking.
*JOKE* If sexuality is indeed learned, there needs to be a global re-training program and an outlawing of M-F marriage and hetero activites, as these may lead to pregnancy. We must stop the awful population explosion that is ruining our planet. These "crimials" can change if they want to.
SOUND RIDICULOUS?
