I am posting a tele interview on a current gay sex scandal where the NSW Minister for Transport was spotted leaving a gay sex venue. I would like some feedback from forum members how you compare the way this is being discussed in this particular interview and compare it with the way that the US media handles such issues.

As a point of intereest, the current NSW Premier, Kristina Keneally is from Ohio. I love the way she moderates her accent to sound more Australian (supposedly).

Olav

David Campbell is apologizing for going to a gay establishment.

George Reker, Mr. Gender Identity Disorder himself, has a rabid anti-gay record that spans 20+ years, and we've yet to hear a single word of remorse from him.

Keneally might be unconsciously imitating the Australian twang a bit, or it might be deliberate. Hard to tell. It did seem that she opened her remarks sounding quite Australian (to us), but as she went on the accent (to us) evaporated and she sounded neutral, as in more of an American accent. It also appeared to me that when she was speaking more spontaneously and sincerely, that the Australian accent dropped off. Simply a case of speaking from the heart than from the head.

David Campbell

Hi Olav,
I must say that although I don't vote for or support the Labor party, I do really feel sorry for Mr. Campbell he has done nothing illegal and indeed as for using his taxpayer funded car, that use was apparently within the guidelines, so what has he really done wrong, other than deceiving his family,in particular his wife who is in remission from cancer, so I guess you could say he is guilty of very poor personal judgement in that respect.
Also I am not sure if you are aware Olav, the channel 7 journo who broke the story Adam Walters, was having an affair and has had a child with Reba Meagher, a former health minister in this same government who I understand has a few axes to grind with some people in that party.
I think this mob have just been in office for far too long and I hope at next year's state election, they are turfed out big time and can spend a couple of terms in Opposition to give them time to totally clean out and rebuild the party from scratch.
Cheers.
Steve.

Old news

He's done nothing illegal - there are only moral issues of betraying his partner, in this case a wife who happens to have cancer.

Provided the media jumps on every other politician who has an affair, I don't have a problem. However, I'm sure they've set out to tarnish his reputation by playing the gay card, rather than the unfaithful husband angle.

David used to be in local politics in Wollongong, where I lived for 20 years. I personally saw him in the "wrong" place (the local gay-frequented beach) on more than one occassion. I can't imagine that this wasn't relatively common knowledge as he was a well-known face in the region and said beach was 2kms from the city centre.

I'm confident this is political payback. David in all likelihood has been doing this for quite some time. Somebody has now been able to turn this to their advantage. I personally hope whatever skeletons are in their closet ... and there will be some, that's a given in my opinion ... come out to haunt them soon.

They've taken down a dedicated and competent politician because of a private, personal matter. It's all rather sad.

Apparently....

....it was reasonably well known in NSW parliament...

....and they didn't actually play the 'gay' card as such, what they tried to do is tie use of his car to something that was outside of the usage guidelines...

...it just 'happened' (yeah, right) that it was outside Kens...not on the way to the hospital to see his wife when she was being treated or at the Coles car park...

Pretty straightforward and so not like the phoney God Bible and Forgiveness bullshit repleat with crocodile tears Americans are known for when they get caught diddling or did I miss that part

The reporter says that it's appalling that he kept it from his family blah blah blah all these years..
Now how in the hell does she know that.. has she been party to what his wife has known about him etc?

Married men

It seems like there's a lot of married men on the prowl for other guys; sometimes I think a higher percentage than those that are single. I would estimate from my experiences in the gym steam room that at least 60-70% of the men looking to do something with another man, were married to women. Most of them were in the 30-65 age range, and included anything from hair stylists to construction workers and mechanics. Many of them had children. Knew a couple guys that would work out with their wives, then go back to the steam room for some fun. Bet a lot of women would be surprised at what their husbands do.

This is the way we like to do it here in the good ol' USA...

More importantly, does Jimmy catch or pitch?

Lol! Jimmy didn't look like he minded climbing those stairs with Ralph to look at his collection of baseball cards.

'An invisible, dangerous and contagious disease of the mind' Hmm, I would never have picked 'homosexual' - my first hunch was 'christian'- how wrong was I?!

Oh, that IS funny rapunzel

My first thought was 'another straight actor playing a gay man.'

I mean, really. Those glasses. That shirt. that car.

And climbing those stairs? Did Steinbeck do the script?
