Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wow, Sandy, would this do it? It looks like just what you are looking for, but it does have the earlier side pushbutton controls (really kind of neat, but some people don't like them). Beautiful stove!

So Close, and Yet....

....I can't have one of this vintage.

The reason is that I have a cat. The pushbutton controls at the edges of the cooktop were discontinued by GE after some horrific incidents where curious kitties pranced on the buttons and started fires.

She's a looker, I will say that! Were it not for the safety factor, I'd be all over her. Thanks for showing me.

Here's the range in Harvest Gold - my dream range would be one in White. As you can see, it's very similar to the one above, but with one important difference: GE eliminated the pushbutton controls at the cooktop edges in response to the fire danger (a number of houses were burned down by the edge pushbuttons being pressed by pets, I understand). This was also the time frame where they were moving away from pushbuttons, so rotary controls are used instead. This is the Model J757, from the early '70s; I have a 1972 full-line brochure showing it. There may have been other years.

Keith, if the White range was in Waterloo, I might take the breaker suggestion. However, it's in the Fort Wayne area, which would mean a road trip of over 800 miles (round trip). I could see making that kind of schlep for exactly the right range, but not one that's close but no cigar.

Sandy,

10-4!  If white is your first color choice, in what order would you consider others if I should happen to see one for sale around here?

Tim:

You are going to think I'm being incredibly picky here, but I am trying to put together a complete set of majors (range, fridge, DW, washer and dryer) in White. I've had other colors, and I have to say - they're a pain in the butt. Trying to keep a complete set matched is a huge hassle - something always breaks down past feasible repair, and then you can't find another Turquoise or Coppertone whatever in any reasonable length of time. So you go buy what you can find, and there you are again with mismatched majors. So, White it is from here on out, and if that means doing without something vintage for a while - even quite a while - then I'm good with that.

Right now, I'm in the throes of fixing a Maytag A806, which is being quite a project for my skill set, but it's worth it to me, because the A806 and its matching DE806 are White, and the 806 pair being replaced are Almond. Even Almond is getting to be a problem, because true Almond was replaced by Bisque, which is not really a match for Almond, more a "coordinating" color. It would already be a fair project to put together a complete set of majors in true Almond.

I really appreciate your keeping your eyes open!
