Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Neither Maytag or whirlpool we’re just about anybody else for that matter had the balls to say how long their washers might last.

I do know that Speed Queen’s estimate of 10,000+ loads is very conservative many of them last far longer. The dryer certainly lasts much longer for example

I was also told by the engineers at Speed Queen that the front load washer was designed for 25,000 loads, and we have a few documented cases of them passing 50,000 loads with no major bearings or motor replacements, etc.

But in general domestic washers from whirlpool GE etc. probably did not generally last past 10,000 loads even the overpriced Meile washers claimed they’re good for only 10,000 loads.

When GE redesigned their top load washers around 1960 and went to the perforated basket one of the big breakthroughs they claimed is that the machine could actually last around 10,000 loads, the 50 solid tub GE is only lasted six or 7000 loads at best.

I know there’s a lot of you guys out there that have Maytag and other machines that are over 30 years old. Have you ever tried to figure out how many loads you actually have washed in it based on its average use per week or a month?

Well, let's see....
My Maytag washer & dryer is now 39 years old... ( according to the published date on the owner's manuals and schematic document inside the washer)
So... Assuming one load per week X 39 years... that's 2028 loads.

Of course, the Family that lived here before me and purchased the washer & dryer had several children.
So that figure would likely be substantailly higher.

At any rate, the machines both still operate as they were designed.

sometime around 1992 an appliance shop rigged a new Maytag orbital to constantly run through it's cycles until it stopped many years later-wonder how many cycles that ended up being and what-if any-washload was run. Also what went wrong with that washer.
