GE C21-G2 Range Info

A user on a Vintage Appliance FB forum is trying to date an older GE range. Here is a photo of the range and the model/serial tag.

Anyone have any information? Looking mostly for a date of manufacture and another other wisdom. Sounds like it was more or less unused for most of it's life. It looks pretty minty.

My guess is sometime right after the end of WWII.  Here are a few ads I found from the era.  The ads indicate that range production stopped during the war (like most manufacturing sectors) and the add from 1944 shows a range purchased before the war - does not look like this one.  The later ad is from 1948 and neither does it match exactly, but looks more like this one.  I did find ads from about 1937, but they did not reference Bridgeport, Conn as the corporate address.  Both of these ads do.

 

Maybe this helps some.  Others might be able to offer more information as well.

GE Airliner Range

On the attached link there are details of the 1948 Airliner range, which is the model featured in the second on Lawrence's post above. There is no doubt the range is similar although maybe not so fully featured as the Airliner seems to have at least some press buttons and two power outlets. Of course the clock is in a different position. I would suggest that the knobs are probably replacements - nice range though

This is the range seen in 1949's A Letter to Three Wives, and it's the nicest one I've ever seen offered for sale online. Price is $450, which is not unreasonable for something in such good condition and such an uncommon survival. If you are looking for a Truman-era range, you could hardly do...

As you can see in the pic above the serial number on the range doesn't have the two letter code to indicate month and year of manufacture. The GE serial number info I have using them begins with 1944. So maybe that indicates this is before then? At the same time I have a 40" GE single oven range that I believe is from the late 40s-early 50s and the serial number doesn't have the two letters either which by that time it should. So go figure. I would say it's from between '49 and '51, as the doors are full overlay rather than set into a frame as on earlier models. It's a less expensive model that doesn't have the pushbutton controls.

I'm guessing with the number of knobs this is a 2-oven range?

Old 40" GE Range

I would say the knobs are orignal, and it is a single oven range, GE even back then used two switches to control the oven which is much better than Westinghouse and Frigidaire for example because you could vary the broilers heat.

This ad from 1950 shows a similar range, with the same style knobs, but with the clock in a different location.
