Hey all,

So, I came downstairs this morning to a fridge reading about 50 degrees F. That's the sign that we need to empty the fridge and freezer into coolers and shut it off. Best guess is that since the defrost timer isn't working, the chamber that funnels air up into the fridge section blocks with condensation that freezes. We do try to keep on top of the manual defrosting by turning the knob on the side of the timer, but it's obviously not enough in this more humid weather. Rich has a theory that since we're opening the freezer at least 4-5 times a day to make this manual move, in addition to the normal use of the fridge, it might be adding too much humidity, thereby compounding our problem. Hmmmmmm!

Anyway, I decided to get adventurous and take out the two screws holding the timer to the ceiling of the freezer. Voila! Nothing fell apart, and I'm now able to read the make/model of the timer!

I did try an Internet search for this Ranco timer, and haven't found anything yet. So, I'm going to make the plea here... Does anyone have the timer appearing in the following picture? If so, please contact us! We don't want to get rid of this (beautiful, turquoise) fridge and buy a new POS, but it may come to that.

Thanks so much,

Chuck

Gemline and Supco

Make generic defrost timers and have some universal kits available. I'd go to an appliancce parts store with your current part number or take the timer with you.

It might be possible to repair it yourself if you can get it apart, otherwise you may be able to ship it off to Midwest Timer and have them fix it.
