Picked up this GE dehumidifier this morning in the Kennebunk area of Maine. The owner stated that it does work but sometimes a couple of the coils freeze up from time to time. Due to the weather/heat, I didn't have a chance to plug it in or take it apart to clean and see if the fan motor needs lubrication. I hope to begin in a few days when it cools down outside.

Looked up the model online but I've not been able to find any information on it so far.

Inside

Today I plugged it in and it's low on R12. Only two coils got cold and they freeze up.

I did take apart the outer frame. Somewhat dirty. Overall pretty clean inside. Will have it cleaned up tomorrow. Too hot outside for me today.

Debating if I should recharge it. I do have an unopened can of R12 that I've had for decades. Would like some opinions on recharging it.

Low Charge ?

It could be a low charge or restricted, if a low charge it has a leak in the system although something this old if leaking it might be a very small leak and it might work for a few years with more refrigerant.

The way to find out if it is a low charge or restricted is to add 2 oz of refrigerant and if the frost pattern improves add a little more, if it improves try adding 3/4 of the listed charge amount.
