old dog, new trick syndrome---

maybe they thought it was too much of a hassle. they just couldn't grasp it.

My grandmother was given a dishwasher one year and she stopped using it within six month's of having it. Said it was too much trouble for her that she'd rather just wash her dishes by hand. It just sits there.

As long as we are talking about GE Mobilemaids...

My parents first dishwasher was a GE Mobilemaid. It was white on the outside and the interior was turquoise. Were the interior colors dependent on the exterior color on these machines?

This would have been around 1961-63 or so.

No, although it might have seemed that way in the late '50's. For some reason, the outsides of the tank were painted pale pink while the front panel was white for a couple of years. Then the kick panel at the bottom was left speckled pink (?) and then by 1960 everything was pretty much white unless you could buy the machine in a GE "Mix or Match" color. According to the service manuals they even paid attention to the colors of the hoses and electrical cords.

At the end of 1961 when production of the top-loading built-ins was discontinued, the Plastisol in the tanks of all GE dishwashers, Front-Loading and Top-Loading portables was changed to a light blue to go with the times(1950's Petal Pink was Passé).  The vinyl covering the rack wires was also changed from coral pink to white. I have the last GE pull-out built-in that I got years ago from Greg M. and it's basically identical to the Princess offered in 1957 but with the new Blue and White color scheme. There was still a two-tone thing going on with some of the dishwashers. The 1965 Mobile Maid I just got from Dough has a white front panel, but the baked enamel on the tank (the bulk of the machine) is sort of bone colored. Works for me.

Yes, beginning in the last of the TOL pink interior machines and continuing into the blue interior with white rack TOL models. It was powered, I believe, by the drain pump turning backwards during washing and rinsing.
