Does anyone have any experience with GE dishwasher from the recent seven or eight years? I have one that was installed in late 2013. At the time they had good reviews and the model I purchased has the "steam" option as well as "sanitize." In that year, they were separate options to select, and on the current models I think they're on the same button so it appears that you have to select both at the same time. However, I have never had success with the "steam" options.

When it was first installed, I always used the steam option but I usually there would be dried gunk remaining on some of the dishes and often the pink capsule on the Finish detergent tab was end up dried in the dispenser. That didn't happen if I didn't select "steam." From what I could figure, when "steam" is selected, there's a period before the main wash when the tub fills with water and the heating element is turned on with no pumping or water circulation. However, the element isn't really submerged so it's essentially like an oven!

Just curious if anyone else has observed this...

Sani option

Yes - Using the Heavy cycle with Sani works well, as long as I don't use the Steam option. You'd think that using the steam option would help clean, but it doesn't. As I described originally, I think that "Steam" function just turns on the heating element which never appears to be fully submerged in water so I think it really is like baking the dishes rather than steaming them. On the newer GE models it appears that there's only on button for both Steam and Sani. I hope that doesn't require you to select both or neither.
