Intro and a short story long.........................
Wife snookered me last year when she wanted a new stove. I was all prepped and ready to get a mid level G.E. Electric when she tells me to drive over to Habitat for Humanity store. "Ok, Why?" says I. She tells me she had seen a Double oven Range that looked like the mid 60's Westinghouse that was in the house about 20 years ago and wanted it. "You've got to be kidding me!!!!" "Nope" Its a G.E. and it looks in good shape. (That's all I needed to drive over as fast as I could without getting a ticket!)
So we get to the store and in the back is this humungous BUTTER YELLOW colored G.E. Double Oven electric range for $50.00. Model J767001HT. They had tested it and gave it a 2week Anti- DOA warranty. OK. Get it home, wire it up and turned it on. Everything except for the clock works. Even the incandescent lamps under the upper oven for the cooktop. The front trim piece with COOK and CLEAN below the lock handle is cracked. No biggie. Even had the optional 2 speed vent fan.
It's been running fine for over a year now with just a minor degreasing when I got it, and 2 cleaning cycles (yeah I figured out how to do it with a busted clock). Today she preheats the upper oven for a pizza. Put's in the pizza and 20 minutes later, doughy pizza. "What's wrong with it??" in a voice that would set PUTIN to running for a blast shelter. I turned on the broiler and it lit up and started heating. Turned it to Bake and max temp. Light came on. 2 minutes later the heating element is still lukewarm. I checked the clock timer hands to make sure they weren't inadvertently in the same spot. Nope. I did notice the other day that the bottom element had a hot spot that had black areas on both sides. Didn't think anything of it. So hoping it's just the element, I'll open it up tomorrow and see.
Now the $65,000.00 question. How hard are these elements to find, or do I have to find a donor unit?
Any help appreciated to get the "Dragon Lady" off my back. The pic's are of one that is identical I got off the net last year.
