GE Dryer belt replacement

I have a GE I would guess 1970? DDG7580gdlwh of course after many years of great service .. the belt broke .. well thank god a replacement is available. Is there an easy way to replace these with out having to take apart the whole dryer? Any secrets or something? Am I not looking at right .. any help would be greatly appreciated

I had to change the belt on my 90s electric Hotpoint dryer.

Short of removing the front of the machine to slip the belt around the drum, I don't know of any better way.

The belt IIRC is mounted such the the grooves are towards the drum and the flat side away from the drum, but I don't recall for sure. I had to flip the $$%^&-ing thing over, in that I had installed it incorreclty and the drum would not turn when loaded.

I kind of thought that was the whole situation ... which I do not mind doing since this thing is better than any other crap you can buy right now ... but it also because I live so far out in the woods that I need propane and it really is my baby savior so thanks toggles for the belt information I bet I would be cussing like you and goat you have always been there dude ...

well ordering a new belt since my baby needs to run again

Check the rest while you're at it...

There are several things you should check while you have it opened up.
1)Check the front glides. These are teflon strips and can wear thru. I've seen them ignored and then the drum wears through and turns on the glide brackets. I've even seen them run so long, the drum EATS thru the brackets. Not Pretty. How my customers could have ran the dryer with that god awful grinding noise is beyond me. The glides can be gotten as a complete assy and it seems to me you can get rebuild kits with just the glide and felt as well.
2)The rear bearing. Since you're almost there getting to the belt, check it.
3)Last but not least, the idler pulley.

That'll help her last for YEARS!

Also while you have that drum out, give the dryer a good cleaning. This may be more work than you were thinking of doing but it is part of general maintenance.(fires are very bad)
