Howdy!

My 1987 GE dryer works great except for this annoying noise. It's done it since I bought it but being on vacation starting next week, I want to see if I can fix it.

Anyone know what the problem is? I've never worked on a dryer so I have no idea and if I need parts I want to order them soon.

Thanks for the help!

WOW......now that is a noise.....

but wondering if the blower came loose from the motor shaft.....

you can pull the front off and operate it to locate where the noise may be coming from.....

does the drum turn OK?

if anything, would not hurt to open it up and clean out any lint build-up

and its a simple setup inside.....
you may want to replace the drum glides on the front
clean and grease the rear bearing
and maybe a new belt.....

see what you find, and keep us posted...

Haha, yea it makes quite the racket! It's not super loud but still...

Yes it operates perfectly. I forgot about the lower panel so I will take that off and see if I can figure it out. The noise seems louder in the back of the dryer actually. I was thinking maybe something was loose too.

So I ordered a new belt, slide kit, and a new idler pulley. I found a website that has good instructions for repair and it does look very easy. I'll post the results!

I did it!

Got this old girl fixed up. Turned out the belt was fraying and yes the idler pulley was worn and chipped. The glides on the front were worn too...though not terrible but one side had the plastic strip completely gone. All in all it was very easy. I vacuumed it out too as there was a lot of lint underneath.

She purrs like a kitten!

Ok next question....

So my washer works great too except that occasionally something makes this loud "WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH" sound. It's only on "Normal" agitation speed and often if I stop the machine and then restart it, it will go away. Oddly as of late it doesn't do it as often anymore. I'm thinking that maybe it's the clutch making that noise? I found a replacement on ebay...some have the motor attached and others don't.

Thoughts on this? I'll post the link to the part to make sure it's the right one.
