My latest acquisition.

It was still in use in the home of the original owner.

Got this for free, my favorite price, but this
poor baby is a challenge.

I'd say that would be good candidate for a donor cabinet from a newer model.

Plenty of those still around.

Unique dial; 1964 was the only year this style control panel was made although it was the prototype for all of the new control panels that would last, with few changes, for over 25 years.

I agree, with a cabinet exchange, if this baby is in reasonable shape you should be able to enjoy it for many years. The 820 was such a common model that you might be able to just pop that control panel on another unit. Save all the parts to make a lot of money on eBay.

I was hoping you would chime in with the history of this model.

A donor machine is what I had in mind, I just wasn't
sure what years to look for.

The drum is in good shape although I haven't taken a look inside the
cabinet yet. It was still in use in it's original installation when
I unplugged it to bring it home.

I was thinking the same thing about a donor cabinet......I know some frown if its not born true to its whole unit....

sometimes that can't be helped, but it does allow one to enjoy the use of the machine a few years longer.....

I've never seen the insides of a pedal door model, but perhaps the whole front panel/door assemble can bolted onto the donor cabinet along with the top cover and console. Note the color difference between the enameled top cover and yellowed painted cabinet.

No doubt there is more rust inside. That unit was either flooded from time to time and/or in a very damp location.

Another good thing if the front panel can be salvaged; the serial and model # are located there in.

Precious few people would ever notice the transplant if you find a 60's or 70's era cabinet.

The color difference is because the top is porcelain enamel and the cabinet is baked enamel.

Alex, thanks for thinking of me.

That would be an excellent candidate were it a little
closer to home.

I actually just bought this on Thursday for $30 at
a local salvage yard. It is non-working, but has a
very solid cabinet. Must have been in a dry location,
the bottom is rust free.

A little too chilly in the garage right now to tear into
it, but maybe later in the week.

Doner Cabinet

I concur, that was the first thought in my mind if you wanted to preserve it. Easier with a dryer than a washer. Easier mess to clean up, too.

This dryer reminds me of a Nun in a habit.
It's the big, white, fluorescent head dress and the bland, simple control panel. The chrome appears black.
Anyone else?
