Regarding the picture, I am not in disagreement. Modern GE dryers are almost identical to those from the 80s and earlier.
GE needs to treat their electric dryers like their gas dryers, and put the elements in a cylindrical tube underneath the drum and pipe the hot air up and over. Or better yet copy the Whirlpool top mount lint filter.
Another thing I saw with these dryers was the amount of lint built up inside, it was unreal, more so than the few none GE dryers I've seen.
I however will stand behind having two timed dry cycles, in the right hands timed dry is better than auto dry.
