GE Filter Flo Age Question

Anyone have any idea how old these are? I guess early 80's, but I'm unsure. They could also be later 80's, but they have short control panels with the raised edge trim. They are BOL but the seller says the washer is Extra-Capacity, 1-speed ex. cap machine did exist. Toggle switches and matching dryer, seem to be in very good shape. Can't tell is while or almond.

Hard to tell about the age without knowing the model numbers. GE introduced these black consoles for the smaller capacity machines in 1977 and continued to use throughout the 1980's. These look very much like the pair I bought last year and mine are from 1977/1978. Washer here.

Those are very sharp machines. What kind of agitator does the washer have? More pics would be great!

The machines I was looking at are also in very good condition, but the seller is being slightly unreasonable in price ($250 starting out). My point is that to most people these are just a washer and dryer. Why would the average Joe take this obviously old set for $250 when much newer sets with far less age and deterioration can be had for less? That is my reasoning anyway... I'd love to have them, but not at that price.

FYI, the washer for sale is a BOL Extra-Lg capacity machine.

My brother got that set when he got married, for the second time, and that was 1978.......a very basic machine, no fun really to be had from my point of view...but it got the job done.....

And just why not Mr. Yogi? My bet friend from college and his wife got that washer as part of a pair when they bought their townhouse in 1978. I thought it was pretty cool, it was a F Flo.

Well Bob.....for me it was exciting to see all the features that was available, and if this was a machine to last, lets say, 15 to 25 years, for a few more dollars, I would have gotten some more features, at least a minibasket and a fabric softner dispenser.....but thats always been me.......

like we both bought the same car, but he only got medium of the line, and I got top of the line, full featured bells and whistles.......some may argue more to go wrong.....but my point of view was if your gonna have something for a long time, and end up with a 5 year long payments, get everything with it rather than forever wish you did, as long as it can be afforded......but thats my own opinion......some one once said to me while I was living alone, why do I have a TOL Kenmore with super capacity, answer is I can always reduce the water level as needed, but I can't increase capacity!

I have that EXACT matched set. Mine are dated 1979. They are the smaller capacity, of course. Its hard to find agitators and mini baskets for those suckers, trust me. The washer is a true work horse, for sure!

martin, a Sr. Moment here. I thought you were referring to the model Pulltostart showed,not the one Tim was referring to. Trust me, the one Pulltostart showed, would be about as BOL as I would get. If your brother got the one Tim is referring to, then yes, to oplane jane for me too.

They look like they are late 1970's or early 1980's models. I can't really remember the exact year of my mom's GE filter-flo washer, but I think her's was a 1981, and her's had 3 toggle switches on the left.

My pair are pretty much TOL standard capacity machines. The washer is a 2-speed model with mini-basket and has a bleach dispenser. I added my own fabric softener dispenser (a NOS that I've had for a while). The dryer has 3 temperatures and is an auto-dry type dryer. The only thing that it doesn't have, and I wish it did, is a light in the drum.

The price of $250 for the original pair does seem steep. I paid $50 for my pair, but then had to have them shipped from Boston to Atlanta. Still, I was pleased with the outcome.

If I lived in Kentucky, I'd buy that in a heartbeat! I'd rather give $250 for a 25 to 30 year old machine, versus giving $1,000 for a new one with horrible quality.

If they only knew what they were doing by getting rid of that!

Andy, I don't necessarily question the quality of the machines, just the price. One of the things about "vintage" machines is they can be had cheap and the "cost" is what you put into them. These are being sold as working machines to any home for $250, which for an already 25+ year old machine is just rude IMO. These are really not uncommon or really collector by much stretch as it seems to be the earlier Filter-Flo's that people want for that. This is a plain Jane 80's BOL Filter-Flo with no options. It would be a stretch to get this money for even a much newer set as BOL as they are. The dryer isn't even an auto-dry, it's timer only, which most people wouldn't;t know what to do with these days. I guess the arrogance if you will here bothers me the most, they think they have something, they don't but they think they do. $250 is doable, but for a BOL set in that condition, I'd say $150 is a handsome price and I would pay that.

You're right. After I posted that, I got to thinking that it's probably too much, the $250. It does look pretty plain with no knobs in the middle. Somebody will probably buy it.

They should lower their price to no more than $150 like you said, that's plenty.

Dryer Age

I can't speak for the washer, but my sister had that exact dryer way back when I was in high school. She had this dryer at least two years or more before my mom and dad bought the 1971 Lady Kenmore washer and dryer (I would use my sister's dryer when I did laundry on rainy days). She also had a 1965 SQ washer. She had that dryer for a number of years before having to replace it with a Kenmore around the early-mid 90's. The washer does look like a later model than the dryer. BTW, I loved that SQ washer. It had the lint basket which would clip onto the top of the agitator. As the washer agitated the filter basket would pull water into the lint basket.
