GE Filter Flo - looking for fabric softner dispenser

Greetings all. I'm the proud owner of an early 90's GE Filter Flo top loader. Works great and am very happy with it. Had to change the pump once as it started dripping a bit, but fortunately I caught it in time before the water dripped into the motor and shorted it out (my brother also owned a Filter Flo until his motor shorted out from a leaky pump... it's sitting in my storage shed now for parts).

Was just wondering if anybody had a fabric softener dispenser that they would be willing to part with? I'd also love to get a hold of a mini tub as well, but would for now settle for the fabric softener dispenser.

I did check Ebay, but I'm not sure the two that are listed will fit over top of a Filter Flo filter.

can you give us a pic of your filter?......if we knew exactly which one it is someone around here may have one or could locate one for you......theres 2 sizes they come in, your center post is either large or small...

Hmmm... now that I compare my photo to the background photo, the center post looks smaller on mine. Maybe it's just the angle differences of the photos. Anyways, my vernier calipers say the center post is 2.5" in diameter at the height that is level with the outer rim, and the inside diameter is around 2.3".

You have the small post....theres a few places around here I will check, looking for a minibasket for another member also, he has the standard capacity, their hard to locate that size...

Appreciate it. Because my post is small, does that mean that I have the standard size tub as well? Not too worried about finding a mini basket... would just be neat to have one.

While I'm hear, I do have a couple other questions. First one has to do with the water level control. My water level control goes from high level at 3 o'clock to low level at 9 o'clock, but then past low level are two detents: one at 7 o'clock and another at 5 o'clock. I believe these have to do with the level for the mini basket, but I'm just curious as to what they were both for and what were they labelled?

My second question has to do with second rinse. The parts machine I have in my shed has a second rinse control, and the timer layout looks identical to mine. I believe that all the switch does is send power to a contact on the timer to allow it to continue running to the second rinse, so if the timers are identical, I'm wondering if drilled a hole in my console and mounted the switch, then connected it to the same terminals on my timer, would that enable my machine to have a second rinse?

You have me a little puzzled on this one concerning having 2 indents for the mini basket water level, have you tried each setting with a fill level to see what happens, never came across one with 2 indents.....

as for a second rinse option, as far as US models, in the regular cycle you have to hae the extra space after the last spin to offer this option....

they changed the names of large and extra large size tubs from year to year......but if you measure your agitator, for regular/standard capacity it should be 15 3/4 inches tall......add 2 inches more for large/extra large capacity....no matter what there was only 2 sizes ever made...

maybe a pic of your agitator also......normally their roto-swirled, in small and large capacity, only the largest capacities have a 4 or 8 straight vane....

theres even a wider base filter pan also, in white or turquoise....

I think they are different settings--one for the regular mini-wash and the other for the SpotScrubber min-basket wash.

Tried both of the detents tonight, and they both seemed to fill up to the same level, about 5" of water from the bottom of the basket (just past the second level of holes).

Going to check out the timer and 2nd rinse switch on my parts machine to see if the timers are the same part number... I think they might be. If so, I might try a fused jumper wire to see if my timer continues to advance and carries on to the rinse program after the final spin of the regular cycle.

Agitator is 17" from base to cap, and I have attached a picture of it taken out of the washer.

does your agitator have 2 pieces?....the agitator sits on the splines, and the top piece attaches with a bolt, and then the cap.....only seen this type around here on a rim-flo style machine....this is puzzling for this style to have a mini-basket---the vanes usually come all the way to the top

you have the largest capacity machine, but it uses the standard capacity tranny, and they add the extra piece to the agitator to bring up the level

The agitator is all one piece. No bolt under the cap; just pushes onto the splined shaft.

I'm thinking it might never have come with a mini basket option. GE might have just used the same water level switch as a mini basket capable washer and didn't label it hoping people wouldn't turn it past LOW. Or maybe it's the wrong switch-I know that it did overflow once and was fixed just before I bought it (it came with the house I purchased from friends of my family). But if I remember right the overflow was caused by a failed mixing valve due to hard water build up.

Thats always possible.....or could of had the water level switch replaced and this is all they had...
