Hi All:
Any tips on the install of a new outer tub top gasket? Is it cemented to the outer tub? I know it press seals against the top cover. This procedure is not covered in the GE manual. If I put this baby into spin with a full load there will be a flash flood.

Yikes, Mickeyd!
OK, next stupid question. I got the new gasket on, but when I close the top the back pops off the rear clips. Do I need to sit on the damn thing, or should I put some heat on the gasket (warm hair dryer) to soften it? I also notice the original gasket has some material that looks like white grease on the gasket where the lid switch arm crosses it. What is this stuff, and where do I get it?

Here is a pic of where the stuff was. It must have acted as a sealer and lubricant so the arm would be able to turn and still stay water tight.

Thats just white lithium grease.....hardware or auto parts store should carry it, not a sealant, vaseline should work just as well, just lubricates the shaft.....

also the new seal is really plumped up, thats what causing you to have a hard time getting the top on, and sometimes I had to get on top with all my 98 lbs...lol...and push on all four points till they snapped, but thats what you want a TIGHT seal....
