I'm presently using a Vintage 70's GE Filter-Flo as a daily driver, and would like to keep it going. The 3rd-4th transmission I've replaced gave out again, with the typical "no agitate - spin OK" syndrome.

Does anyone have any rebuilding info on the large capacity WH38X39 transmission??
Are there any re-builders left?
Are there any parts left?
Did GE make all their parts, or did them outsource some of these parts?

I need a manual and parts list for the internal gear box, as I'm going to start rebuilding them. I've got several with the same "no agitate - spin OK" syndrome. Any ideas would be appreciated. Call or respond here. Thanks.

thats odd that your having that many issues with these trannies......it can happen, just never heard of one machine doing it over and over.......it's usually recommended to just replace the whole thing......and can be found on ebay rather inexpensive.....just the simple way out......

you can try the searchalator for past post on rebuilding one of these....although this is not a tranny most rebuild.....

Rebuilt Transmissions For GE FF Washers

I would check with your local parts places first and even if the WH38X39 is not available you can use the later style GE FF transmission if you use the later style agitator along with it. The later style FF washers used the same TM in both the regular and extra large tub washers. They had a bolt that held the agitator in place and a much improved agitator drive that did not strip out so easily. There is also a company in Canada that rebuilds various brands of washer transmissions and sells them through various parts distributors here in the US.

We used to always joke that GE washer transmissions were like air-cooled Volkswagen engines, They were easy to replace but if you kept the washer or car very long you often replaced it more than once.
