I thought the '57 models were the "Straight-Line" style. Sure its not a '56?

Tom, If it were a 1956 model
It would have a turquoise interior. It has a pink interior just like my 1957 GE single Door Combo does. That is not to say that the straight edged bookcase freezer was not also offered in 1957. I say that because according to my dealer brochure pages for the 1957 Ge Fridge line…the rounded cornered 2 door fridge was still offered in 1957 along with the straight edged model…so that maybe the case with the 1957 upright freezers too…..PAT COFFEY

Like this... our very first fridge was a GE and same vintage
plus we are about to get 1/2 a steer in a month or so, and will need a larger freezer... so how expensive would this be to run, and most important, are vital parts available to get it running if it craps out, or can newer parts be substituted? Am a bit leery of putting so much valuable meat in an almost 50 old freezer.

As Pat points out, GE still offered some rounded models as MOL and BOL units; the "Straight-Line Design" models were the TOL.
This is definitely a 1957 model, styled to match the MOL LB-12P and LB-81P fridges. These were both single-door models; if you wanted a model with a separate freezer door, you had to go up the line and get the "Straight-Line Design" models.

Running Cost Of A 1957 Manuel Defrost Freezer
May not be too bad, I would estimate only about twice as much as a similar new one, translated, $4-8 more per month.
Older freezers like this can be repaired with newer parts IF you can find a good refrigeration technician and are willing to pay for it.
The question of trusting 1/2 a steer to an older freezer is hard to answer, the real question is would anyone want to eat that much red meat in a year knowing the health risks of doing so, LOL.
