Lowes has this washer on sale for $399.00. Right now it's the one I'd like to get to replace the Tags. The reviews seem to be good, except for Consumer Reports which was just OK. Does anyone have any experience with this washer? I'd love to get Speed Queens but the price is off-putting.

I'd look really hard at Amazon, Lowes, and any other reviews before purchasing. I don't know anyone who has a HE GE. Look for any recalls, speaking from experience.
Buy the 460 model, larger tub. Performance is good. It's a 5 year throw away machine.
The GTW330 is NOT a HE washer per the info I can find. That is why it's either the GE or Speed Queen. The issue is the GE set will be about $800.00. The SQ bol set is $1600.00. I just can't see it. Not sure if the GE dumbs down temp, but being able to pick fill level is the big plus.
Don't waste your money on GE:
If you really want a top loader go for the SQ. Just make sure to get the electronic controls so the warranty is the full five years. The SQ is the ONLY TL today that works properly as a TL should. They are built to last 20 years. Many GE's are in the dumpster after 5-6 years.

I'd get the 330 and not the 460 model.
The wash action in the 330 is much more vigorous even with clothes while in the 460 it seems much more tame.

I don't think you can go wrong for $399. That's about as inexpensive as it gets short of the $299 Amana/Admiral or whatever it is being badged now. As said before, you could pretty much get two GE sets for the price of one Speed Queen. Sure the Speed Queen might last longer but after reading some of the complaints on this forum about their customer service, I'd just get a used Maytag instead.
I recently went into a large appliance dealer in my area and the guy who I spoke to has been there for a long time, he told me he has the GE top loader and they love it. He said it cleans the clothes really well and spins them out very good too. I saw it on display and the machine had very nice choices for every cycle. It may not last as long as Speed Queen, but not everyone can afford the very high price of the Speed Queen especially if you are living on a limited budget. For the money the GE looked very good to me and this guy raved about how much they liked it. He was the only one I have talked to who owns one personally. The other choice might be the new Maytag 4.7 top load which is also reasonably priced and seems to have very good reviews. It has a good warranty and is made in USA, and I believe this is a good choice as well for one who is on a budget.
WasherDude, thanks for the videos. They pretty much have pushed me over to the GE, it seems to be what I'm looking for.

Soooo, I thought I'd call some used appliance places to see what I could get for the Tag set. Of the four places I called three said they wouldn't want them period. The forth place offered me $100 for the set if I brought them to him. All four said they wanted nothing to do with new washers. I have a feeling this is going to be a church donation in the end.

The new GE's are really good machines. This model in particular will give you a traditional style washer. Good price too.
Sell your old set on Craigslist. I've had very good luck with mine there.

We've been quite happy overall so far...
with our 1 yr old BOL Hotpoint (GE), cost only 325 delivered, water temp is the only problem and that is easily corrected by pulling one wire. Fills with a decent amt of H20, agitates well, spin dries at 620+rpm. Folks keep saying new stuff lasts only 5 yrs, but that hasn't been our experience with any of the el-cheapo appliances that we've bought over the years, knock on wood, however we do maintain them properly and tend not to abuse things.

I have the 460 set and matching dryer and they are decent machines. I would go with this model because I like the dual action agitator better than the one piece one in the other model. You can get a straight hot wash in this machine too based on the cycle you choose, the whites cycle gives a straight hot wash. One interesting thing about this model is that on any cycle you can get straight hot water so long as you leave the lid open while it is filling. Its only once you close the lid that it dumbs down the temp for whatever reason. Plus it has the deep water wash so you can get an almost full tub of water too.

For GE and Maytag washers I probably would buy from Home Depot because the 5 year warranty is about $100. That is good insurance. I read that they are pretty good with replacement if say, the control board goes. Also good advice to not overload, and this is true for all washing machines.

I put the set in our weekly paper for $400. The response was not over whelming. I have laid down clear rules to use the TAG on "deep water wash" or "Bulky" to make sure of getting some proper water level. I noticed today that the water level on "deep water wash" varies with the load. If there was one water level I would be happy and load accordingly.
