Been lurking on the site for a while and really enjoy it. My DD Kenmore has started "popping" the breaker, while I would love a vintage machine, my wife wants new.

What is the groups opinion of the GL Harmonys? We are considering one, and I was wondering what this group thought of them. Also, How do they work? The GE website has a short video that doesn't really show anything.

Harmony Washes Live

Hi Jaxsunst,

A while back I had posted two videos of my GE Harmony washer running for the Appliances Forum, my video camera was sort of on the blink and didn't capture the sound at that time, but you will get an idea visually of how this machine works. Check out these two videos, right click on these two links and select save target as to save them to your hard drive first and then watch them.

Got Videos

Thank you so much for the videos, I just downloaded and watched them. What an entertaining machine! If you have to go modern, you should get one that is fun to watch. I've been looking into the new design washers, the Maytag scares me, and the Calypso seems to have too many problems. I think this is the route we will probably go when the Kenmore dies, which will be any day now.

Thanks Again,
Jackson

Fun to Watch

I agree. These do look like they would be fun to watch. I might pick up a scartch and dent from the Sears outlet just to have a new toy.

GE Harmony

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the downloads of the GE Harmony in action. I thought these were sold as high-efficiency washers. From your videos, I'm guessing that they're efficient with electricity, but just average with water. I've looked at these at my local Lowes store, and they appear to have a very large tub, which in your clip, is filled near the top. It looks like you can use any detergent you want, without worry about over-sudsing. True?

Really, the videos made me long for my Haier 4.3 l.b. capacity pulsating portable top-loader I owned for a short time a few years back. It washed very similarly. My local ABC Warehouse carries them for about $200. Oh the willpower....

Hi Pete, the Harmony's are water efficient too. But since I know all the tricks of that machine I can make it fill all the way up if I wish, like I did in that video.

Enhancements

Perhaps GE will incorporate a few enhancements with the next generation of the Harmony. Like manual water level control. Shower rinse option. The ability to disable the auto balancing system.

Then I might get one.

Washer Videos-ALL DAY LONG!

I could watch washer videos all day! This Harmony reminds me of the little Sanyo portable my welfare-queen friend had a few years ago. So cool you can make the Harmony use LOTS of water. So much more fun than my boring hettie (but I needed the water heater)

Harmony vs F/L

So would the Harmony do a better job at washing a comforter by really "soaking" it vs a front loader ???
How do you get it to fill all the way ??
