GE Mini Basket Finally Makes It To Ebay

Hi All,

Last month I posted pictures of a vintage GE Mini Basket that I have for sale. Thanks to all who gave me help and input about it. I apologize for the delay in getting this listed. It's been a nightmare trying to close out my friend's family home. I finally got the insert posted to Ebay and as per the request of Volvoguy, I am posting this link to the listing.

I completely understand the money thing.

Although I'd like to get something for it to help my friend (who I am selling it for) my main thought is for it to find a home with someone who really needs/wants it. I get the heebie jeebies when I see "orphaned" vintage appliances and things, and know how much it hurts when I learn that someone had something I really longed for and......it was trashed because the owner saw no value in it. It's like the 1952 house that my friend is about to put on the market. It is the exact model of house in the exact subdivision that I am the historian for and I'd give my back teeth to be able to buy it from her to save it from being McMansionized or worse yet torn down, but alas I am in no position to buy it so my dream house will soon be sold away to an unknown fate. The upside is that she has been very generous to me insofar as she saves and gives me all the original light fixtures and items that her parents replaced but didn't throw out. I feel so fortunate to have gotten the original kitchen cabinets and recently the original door hardware. I would not have had the chance to get all these things had it not been for my friend recognizing that my heart is really in those houses and she's allowing me to obtain one, piece by piece so to speak. I hope the mini basket will go to whoever wants it as much as I have wanted and loved the vintage appliances that I've collected. My best wishes to everyone in this group as you all are just great.

Robyn,
I understand your concern about the old 1952 house your friend is putting up for sale. Even houses built back then, and earlier were built so much better and had so much better quality in them, too. I wasn't around back in those times, but I know they didn't have nail guns and the kinds of equipment they have now, and so the building process was much slower and more time put into building the houses.

In my town, one of the main streets is lined with very old houses on both sides, probably built back sometime between 1890 and 1940, and they are just gorgeous! People own them that have restored them and taken good care of them.

It's great that you got your old cabinets back also, and some other things. I hope whoever buys that house takes care of it. It's truly a "built to last" part of the past.

....for your kind thoughts about "my" beloved homes in Springfield, VA. Like the vintage appliances that we all love, those houses were truly built solid and with quality that has already stood the test of 58 years, but like folks who replace the vintage appliances with newer and often times cheaper built ones, many of those all brick homes have been felled to put up McMansions that are cheap vinyl siding on three sides and swallow up what were nice yards. All those homes originally came with Bendix washers in the basement but so far I have yet to see one with an original still down there. Would sure be great to find one for my collection, but it was enough of a struggle just to find an original set of the kitchen cabinets that hadn't been tossed in a dumpster, so I'm not counting much on finding a 52-53 Bendix along the way. Looks like the auction on the mini basket is winding down soon. Hope someone on here gets it and gives it a new home. Best wishes to all.
