Are you talking about the condenser fan motor?

I would expect that six or eight drops would be fine.

Yes

Condenser fan motor.
One thread mentions using 20 weight or 3 &1 oil in the blue and white can.
Another thread mentions a parts source here in Ca (door gasket)

a word of caution

keep the top mechanism vertical- mostly vertical , don't tip it on its side. The mechanism can jamb.

In the service lit when that happened they used to set it up in the back of a truck and drive around on bumpy roads with it for a time the get it set back right.

The lower box can be tipped over without a problem

Jon,

I've heard that comment made before but that is entirely not correct. They don't jamb from being tipped over.

No work.

Unfortunately, I'm still renovating my historic monster of a house and I ended up spending Sunday working in the basement (where the fridge is) to clean out an area so the furnace can be installed. My tenants all have heat, but I do not. I shall try again this Sunday.

Also, conditions at my job are terrible and getting much worse. I am spending a fair bit of effort looking for a better one.

Dave,

Would like to see some pics of your house. I really admire older, historic architecture.

Interesting information. I've seen old refrigerator advertising where the mechanicals are shown located in the basement of the house with the "ice box" up in the kitchen. Ive also read how people died when a refrigerant leak developed which seemed to be not uncommon. I guess those early refrigerator systems were a gamble. Funny the Monitor Top history doesn't show a square top that utilized a condenser fan.

I thought the pictures of the restoration work looked familiar. Cablehack is a contact of mine on Flickr. I followed his restoration of that Monitor Top through his postings there. Very knowledgeable guy and did a great job.
