I won't run a water line to the refrigerator, nor do I care for ice that tastes of whatever's in the fridge, so this would be great in my kitchen. I use a lot of ice brewing fresh glasses of iced tea with the Keurig and this would be more convenient than picking up bags of ice at the grocery store. Love the 'nugget ice' format, too.
Downsides: Paying the energy cost of adding a small freezer to the kitchen; shelling out $500 for it.
Final Analysis: I want one!

Went to the website, as I'm definitely interested. Everything is pre-order at this point, with a claimed delivery date of July 2016. I'm going to wait, but am predicting one will be on the kitchen counter next year.

Why not just put 3 or 4 ice cube trays in the freezer and make your own ice? A lot less expensive than spending $500 for an ice machine. I go through a lot of ice but never seem to run out making my own.

If you can't get a water line to your refrigerator ice maker, consider buying a Flojet. I installed one of these in the adjacent cabinet with a 5 gallon water bottle, although I'm sure you could use a 3 gallon one, and it pumps the water to the ice maker on demand. It works great to get ice out of my ice maker.

The FloJet sounds interesting, but it won't work in my particular application. Gary's practical suggestion to spend $5 on a few ice cubette trays is the route I should take...but it doesn't sound like half the fun of having an Opal Nugget Ice Maker sitting on the counter, LOL.
Many people purchase bags of nugget ice at the local Sonic Drive-In, but the nearest one is 100 miles away in Sioux Falls, SD. My sister lives there, so I'll swing by Sonic and pick up a bag on the next visit. I want to see if this chewable ice is effective brewing iced drinks with a Keurig. (She has one; in fact, she gets the blame for turning me on to the Keurig experience.)
Since this is an appliance that is plugged in and 'on' 24/7, I'd prefer the early adopters work out the bugs ("Opal ice-makers recalled due to fire hazard").

I've never ran the water line for the frig ice maker for the same reason as Frig, hate ice that tastes or smells like yesterdays meatloaf..this looks interesting, but I'll wait. I have to pic and chose what I'm spending my mad money on and right now I want Rosalies Zero Suds...for family members for xmas.
Cheryl-- I refuse to run a water line to the fridge mainly due to my history of flooded kitchens. If water runs to it or through it, I probably have a flood story to tell. It's a curse! What a great idea for Christmas gifts-- Rosalie's Zero Suds.

Tell me more about the Keurig iced tea. I've made a lot of different coffees with mine, have not tried tea, or iced tea, what type of tea do you use? Process?

I have used the Lipton Ice tea pods in my Keurig. I just fill a tall glass (plastic not glass) with ice and then brew the tea k-cup. I don't like it real strong so then I just use the Keurig to add more water to fill the glass.

I like making iced coffee and, more often, iced tea with the Keurig in a 16-oz."iced tea glass." Keurig advises the use of plastic tumblers, but this is heavy restaurant glassware and won't shatter from thermal shock during brewing.
My current favorites are Lipton Classic Unsweetened Iced Tea and Celestial's Mandarin Orange Spice. Any tea or coffee can be made iced. I prefer to control the sweetness of the final product, so I don't use presweetened iced tea/iced coffee K-cups.
Brew on the 8-oz. setting (either the middle or second largest brew size on older models). Sometimes I'll add a slice of lemon or some peach or raspberry syrup.
I absolutely love the taste of a fresh-brewed glass of iced tea a couple of times a day.
Now you know why I go through so much ice, LOL.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. Need to pick up some tea pods. I do have loose tea and the pods you can fill with your own coffee, I may try some tea and see how it comes out.
No worries Eugene....you gave a much more descriptive post...including pics LOL What model of Keurig do you have? The screen displays look slightly different than mine. I have the K500. Unfortunately I cannot get the Lipton Iced Tea k-cups any more. I do not like the Snapple....far too sweet. I'll have to try just using a regular tea k-cup.

Gary-- I think mine is the K550. Picked up another one using Keurig Club points and have it sitting in the closet. These things are notoriously short-lived, so if either my home or work brewer bites the dust I have an instant replacement.
Keurig has not been doing well on the stock market lately. They recently announced they're letting 5% of their workforce go. Sodastream's cold beverage maker is not doing well either, so I'm afraid Keurig's Kold machine is doomed to fail.
I was startled to find Lipton Classic Unsweetened Iced Tea no longer listed at Keurig's website, but all is well; they moved it from the 'Tea' section to 'Iced Drinks.' Whew!
Keurig just added McCafe, Gevalia, and Maxwell House brands to their website over the weekend.
Back to Opal: I really do hope the Opal ice maker is a hit! It's spendier than most other counter units, but it looks much sharper and produces nugget ice. There's a large number of pre-orders; hopefully that's enough momentum to kick start a successful product. If its performance matches the sleek styling, it could very well be a winner. Word-of-mouth from enthusiastic early-adopters will be crucial.
