We purchased our home a year ago. It came with it is an avocado GE P*7 40" oven. It seems to be a very basic model. I have searched and searched online, and can not find any information out about it. The model number is J43901AV and the Serial Number is HDZ18053. The H is kind of to the left of the rest of the serial number, so I'm not sure what that is about. I am at work, and only the picture from the listing. I'll post better photos once I'm home. Any information about the oven would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Angela,

I looked through the information that I have and don't find this exact range.  The controls and the backsplash do look similar to a 30" range that shows up in a 1968 catalog.  We do know that the P7 oven was introduced in 1963 and the Avocado color was introduced in the spring of 1966, and we know that the Date Codes on the GE website seldom work for 1960's appliances (see link).

My guess would be 1968 or 1969.  Others here might have more information available and give you a more accurate assessment.  Enjoy the range!

Thank you all! We bought this home a year ago. The people that built it in 1952 were the only other people to live in it. They passed away with no remaining relatives. There are many small goodies I've found from their lives here. I have found small toys, aluminum armoire, old, old chemicals (weed killer and such), old hanging utility lights, tin coffee canisters, to a fondue pot.

Today I have fallen down the rabbit hole of vintage appliances. I am absolutely in love with my range, even more than I was before. I've only recently started using it (past few months), and originally was trying to figure out how to clean it. I went in search of a manual online, and then ended up in a week long information search. I posted a picture of the metal serial number plate that I snapped last night. There are also two, blurry photographs I had on my phone. They are not detailed, but give a small idea of the controls. I don't have any better photos of the range on my phone (I'm at work), but I have yet to find a single range online that is exactly like this one. My range seems to be more basic than most (I'm not complaining in the least), but it works perfectly so far.

Beautiful range; beautiful kitchen. Love the big clock!

About cleaning the oven: If it is not terribly dirty, do not use the self clean feature. While convenient, it is terribly hard on the porcelain. It will loose its gloss then start to rust. Many early models were cleaned to death in a few years.
