GE Portable Action w/Persil Liquigels!

While I am leaving the British detergent finds in their respective boxes until the next Wash-In, I couldn't resist trying one to see what I'm in store for...so I chose the Persil Liquigels. Clear "tabs" of green detergent that have a pleasant, "vintage" smell to it...very nice!

I loaded up the GE Portable (fun machine to watch and has a fast spin, but a full set of sheets/pillowcases is too big for this machine...), added 1 "tab" (the box says 2 but this is a smaller-than-average load), and fired it up! It dissolved quite fast. There were virtually no suds on wash, and the rinse water was so clear you could drink it! Same with the second load. When it was all done, everything smelled clean & fresh. I'll let the pictures do the talking for now...here ya'll go!

Hi Austin, those green tabs are such a pretty color!! I used another one of the samples that Greg sent me today to do my laundry. I tried the "Sunshine Fresh Surf Tabs" First load was whites that I did it hot water. I used one table for this load. The Surf made a nice layer of suds really just about perfect. The first rinse had a few suds left but the second was clear. Next two loads were colored and not as large. First one I tried half of a tablet and seemed to have almost to many suds. Added a bit of Downey to the first rinse and that really helped. The second rinse was clear. Third load I tried just a fourth of a tablet and that seemed just right. It does have a wonderful "Sunshine Fresh" scent. So much fun to have different detergents to try. Terry

Interesting gel tabs there - these were some you found on vacation? I love the clear rinsing you get with these detergents too - always amazed, even on big towel loads - clear as a mountain stream!

I used one Fairy tablet today to wash my mattress cover - suds sloshing out of the soap dispenser on top! That's the second time it's happened in the Bendix - the first was with two Surf tabs in a mixed load. I wonder what they don't like about the Bendix?!?! I didn't have a problem with the 49 Westinghouse slant-front and of course, never a problem in the top-loaders...

I just like you little GE so much!
How does it sound when it washes? It seems like it would be very quite, with the only sound being the water sloshing?
I am so amazed at how much it can hold.

Very fun Austin, if I didn't see the box I would think you were putting dishwasher detergent into your little GE! Great pictures as always.

That's strange Greg, I wonder if it has to do with the diameter of the Duomatic's drum? I have lots of VaDets (vacation detergents...) left; will have to experiment in the FL, 1-18, etc. The GE's bottom impeller really doesn't kick up much suds, regardless of the detergent, so it's not the best machine to judge "Sudsability" with. Something to mess around with at the wash-in, I guess, especially with that Dual-Tumble...

Hi Brent, the GE is very quiet during washing; just the hum of the motor and some sloshing. On spin, it sounds somewhat like a Unimatic when it starts up; the tub spins at the same speed the impeller turns during agitation. Definitely a "keeper"...it washes well, has a porcelain tub, and even though a full set of sheets is a little big, it's definitely not the smallest-capacity compact I've seen!

Interesting! When I saw that picture I thought, "hmm, someone turned a bowl of lime Jello upside down on their washer, wonder why...?"

They do look like Jello. But do they have the consistency of Jello?

No...LOL, the detergent doesn't have the consistency of Jello! Call me weird, but I did lick one capsule to see what the "dissoving plastic" tasted like.

Don't try to eat one though!

Friends of mine just got back from UK. They brought me:
Persil Origial Bio tablets
Persil Colour Bio tablets
Persil Aloe Vera Non-bio tablets

I just love the scent. The first 2 rinses are a bit sudsy in the Miele, but the last 2 are clear. And the scent is just wonderful, light and floral!

Actually, IMHO, the powdered stuff for automatic DW-ers makes a great pre-wash for whites.

Westy, I'll guess the dissolving "plastic" is actually made from seaweed or something of that nature. Those natural cellophane-like compounds have either no taste whatsoever, or are slightly salty.
