GE Portable DW mod GGSC453L1 Avocado in Phoenix

I know the guy who is selling this unit. I got my '63 Coldspot from him last month. If anyone up here is interested in this DW, he's asking $65 for it and it is located a few blocks from my house. Misc photos here for you--he has not tested it so I cannot tell you if it is fully functional or in need of anything.

Here's an ad from 1972. I know this dishwasher console doesn't last much longer before it's replaced with the black plastic one piece. Though, the floating timer stays adrift in the door panel.

The woodgrain background (on many appliances) became more prominent as the decade moved on.

I wish it were closer to me.

is probably not a deal-breaker. This DW is compact enough that Greyhound would likely ship it for not a huge amount of money...

Is that Plastisol, or porcelain?  The speckle is throwing me off.  The scrape-guard on the bottom of the inner door liner suggests "plastique coating."

Y'know, I looked right at this thing at his house and didn't think to touch /tap the interior. Saw speckle and presumed porcelain. I'm probably wrong, but that's what a lifetime of KA tubs has done to me.

Starting in 1973 GE dishwasher colors were "Celery" and "Avocado", I think this model is from 1972, although I cannot make out the letter at the end of the model number, it could be from '71. As all of you know I'm a GE fan, but as pretty as this unit looks, the "Sideshow-Bob-Shoe" wash arm tells us that this machine isn't a very good cleaner and more than makes up for that fault with a home shaking decibel level. These were inelegant machines manufactured for builders to offer prospective tenants and/or buyers a modern kitchen with a dishwasher at a very low cost. It pains me to say this, but it's the truth, Ruth.

1)Is this a Pottscrubber model?

2) What are the cycles?

3) Does this model have the Power Shower?

No, that model and that vintage were probably a little better than the avocado machine.

 

1)Is this a Pottscrubber model? No, "Potscrubber" was coined in 1973 and all it meant was marketing

The back tub wall is the back of this machine. I don't think that there were any porcelain tubs in GE dishwashers after 1957. From the time that the rollouts and Mobile Maids were redesigned to have the bow tie impeller, they had Plastisol interiors.

One advancement that this does have is the electrically triggered rinse agent dispenser so it does not need cocking in that space on the upper right of the control panel that used to have the little knob.

It's on Wheels. Why can't we just wrap the unicouple around the hitch of a North bound Greyhound (when the driver isn't looking), and there ya' go!
